Reviews for Mopar 82215387AB Removable Roof Rack Kit for 18-24 Jeep Wrangler JL & Gladiator JT with Factory Hardtop
Easy to install. Comes with an Allen wrench and you'll only need a flat head screwdriver. Solid locking design. I will say the removable clamp part could be better angled/beveled to match better with the gutter, but it works the way it is. 4 stars because there is a slight whistle now that I need to hunt down and get rid of.
I bought these last year when I got my JL, to carry my kayaks. Towed my Jeep behind my RV, with kayaks on top of these racks from Indiana to Florida and back. Took many day trips around Florida with these racks carrying kayaks and had no issues. One of the selling points for me getting the JL model is the drip rail running past the rear door to allow for a wider stance of the roof racks. I would have given 5 stars, but they do not lock and I have not found where they sell locks for them yet. Nevertheless, these racks are perfect for my application and very sturdy.
These roof rack bars whistle terribly. Not a slight whistle - I have chunky mud terrain tires and can handle some road noise - but an obnoxious, constant whistle over 45mph. Mopar clearly didn’t test the product, or care enough to redesign. There are grooves on the bottom that must be covered to make the whistle stop. So unless you don’t mind spending a day modding them per the forum below, do not buy. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/mopar-roof-rack-mods-security-paint-protection-whistling-solved.17678/
First off, my kit did not include the allen wrench....no big deal i have a million. Second, and I am surprised no one has commented on this thus far, but the instructions tell you to tighten the allen bolt on the clamp to 3Nm......um, I guess my built in torque meter in my wrist is broken. And they sure didn't provide a torque allen wrench. So that is stupid. The rack looks great on the jeep, haven't road tested it yet so this review could possibly get worse. Also, if you want to lock this rack to your jeep, it is a breeze to use Yakima sks lock cores, but that adds $80 to the price of your rack if you want 4 locks for the crossbars and 4 for a roof basket or box to all match. So that is kind of annoying considering the rack is already not very cheap.
Looks good, but whistles pretty bad. Probably would go with an alternative if I had to do it again.
Had these racks on my 2018 JK for 1/1/2 years when the rear bracket cracked and broke where it attaches to the rain gutter. They are no longer on warranty and my neighbor across the street had a similar experience on his Mopar rack as well. They are noisy as well as pretty weak (150 lb. max recommended) for $300 a set I think. I am buying a higher end bolted on rack instead now. Wouldn't waste the money buying these.
The worst. Brought it into Jeep 3 times for the whistling. They couldn’t figure it out either. Do not buy unless you plan to leave your radio at high volumes forever.
