Reviews for Bestop 81040-09 All Weather Trail Cover in Charcoal for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK 2 Door
I'm very happy with this cover. Being Bestop. I expected quality. I wasn't disappointed. After a long ride with the top off and trail doors on. I got home close to midnight. In complete darkness . Without reading the instructions. It took 2 of us less than 5 minutes to cover and secure straps. And that was with having to unbox and unbag the cover from the factory.
Quality and thickness of material feels similar to my Bestop soft top. Maybe only slightly thinner. But in my opinion. Makes the cover lighter and easier to maneuver. The straps have enough length to reach the secure points. With plenty, but not too much extra dangling. The cover fits snug. And is secure. The color is listed as charcoal. In my opinion seems lighter than that. More like gray. But matches my silver JK perfectly. I can't comment on its rain integrity. But I feel it will offer adequate protection when my top and doors are off. It did prevent bird droppings from landing in my cab. The droppings wiped off easily. And it also prevented twigs and pollen from getting in my cab. I'm satisfied with another Bestop quality product. I included a pic below of my covered JK.
I haven't used this yet, but I did test the fit, and it seems like this can be a very useful item to have. So far I do have two issues with this product. First, the instructions say there might be some water leakage though the seams, and to avoid that you can apply some "3M Scotchguard" on the inside of the seams. Question; which 3M Scotchgaurd? There's probably a dozen different 3M Scotchguard products. Second, If the seams leak, why did they have to place a seam ON TOP of the jeep? This could, and should have been avoided if they know the seams leak. Anyway, lets see how well it works when I use it in the rain.
Consider first what you need a cab cover to do. This one is vinyl coated so it should do well for extended exposure with chances of precipitation. But it is heavy for a small cover. It can be quite the handful to throw on. I wanted something that is fairly weather resistant to use while at work and overnight parking, but I don't think this cover is worth the effort for such brief uses. Because it is coated, it is stiff and not as "tossable" as a lightweight cover. I'm used to Noah and Evolution type material covers which are easy to flip over a vehicle and roll up tightly afterwards. This cover is not in the same league. It is much heavier and you'll never get it back in the storage bag. I've not yet used it during a rain event, so I cannot review it for how well it shields water. I do like the little tabs that tuck into the tub rail as well as the adjustable straps instead of elastic ones and it fit well when installed. Though it did create a small gap at the door opening (doors off), it did accommodate my windshield post mounted quick release mirrors. You will likely have to seek alternate locations along the side to clip the straps if you have rock sliders. I would not recommend this one if you are seeking one to handle daily or any brief period, primarily because of it bulkiness and difficulty of handling. Want something to cover the Jeep for extended down periods, it may be the one to choose.
Finally pulled this out of the box to use and am not happy with it at all. It feels heavier than the full cover I already have. Not sure if I can still return it but if so I would love to return this.
Unfortunately is top was designed to be used with the soft top OFF. As they should have known, many like the soft top on, with all windows and the door off, where the soft top is like a bikini top. WELL, it doesn't fit properly with the soft top on. if they would have made the door flaps 2 inches longer and the top 2 inches longer front to back it would be great. If the top WAS to be off, this extra fabric would be fine, however with the top ON NOT having enough fabric leaves about 1 inch of the door hole exposed at the bottom. YES it matters as my interior was wet overnight due to rain because of the lack of some extra fabric. It amazes me that they 1. didn't think of this and 2. Don't point out that it's designed only for the soft top being off.
