Reviews for Quadratec Maximum Duty Hydro 7.0 Shock Kit for 87-95 Jeep Wrangler YJ
I picked up this set to replace the original factory shocks on my 93 YJ. The old shocks were totally shot (2 had no fluid in them and one was frozen in the extended position).
Comparing to the worn originals, it is night and day. A few things to know:
1. These are Hydro shocks and the do not extend on their own. You need to extend them by hand (it's not hard). This does make installation way easier.
2. On the rears, the metal sleeve that goes in the bushings only go on the bottom bushing of each shock. The count for the top of the shock will not allow the metal sleeve to fit. You will have 2 extra metal sleeves when you are done.
3. Torque specs are 45lbs all around. So removal of the old ones shouldn't be too tough, but hitting them with penetrating fluid first makes it easier. All blots and nuts are 3/4" with the exception of the top of the fronts.
All in all it is a fairly simple install (fronts are easier than rears unless you have a lift) and took me about 2 hours by myself.
Big difference in these compared to the old 30 + year original shocks that came off of it.
They even mailed me the sticks for them that was missing from the boxes.
Rides a whole lot better.

FIT GREAT
Little bit on the soft side.
But comfortable.
Good
Installed these on a YJ. I'm happy with them. They handle well on the freeway, made my jeep a little less scary to drive at speed. I've been to Moab a few times with these installed. They don't make up for my warn out springs, but they did an admirable job for the price.
Great
Affordable and good quality
Just finished putting on my new shocks. I was a little concerned because all of the videos I've watched on YouTube, other shocks come compressed and tied. These did not... Then I read on google that they have a break in period if you don't prime them first. First shocks I've installed so I'm clueless. Anyway, I installed them, took a short 8-to-10-mile ride. I could feel a difference immediately. I can still feel the bumps of course but now it doesn't feel like there bouncing my tools out of their box. I'm defiantly pleased. Sorry for the rambling.
