Reviews for MasterTop Bimini Top Plus for 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ
I also ordered this bimini top plus too it was a little bit harder to put on but looks excellent.
A nice product, make the strap longer though it was about 2 inches shorter than it should have been
Nice top, Make sure that if this is the first time your using this top you order the Windshield Header Part number 14700201. Nothing will ruin your day faster to find out you need another part before installing this item.
I’ve owned this top for five years now and must say it’s probably the best mod for the money on my Jeep. Pros: fits well and lasts a long time for the money spent. Cons: plastic buckles are cheap and I broke one in the course of ownership. You also have to buy the header as others have said and it doesn’t fit well on the windshield. The color also fades in the sun, I noticed it after the first summer. I will be buying another one of these this year to freshen up the look. Works best with the door surrounds, I’ve tried it both ways. I use it almost year round as it keeps the elements off of you mostly, even when the temps get down below freezing in the cold fall and spring mornings and evenings. Stretch it out in the sun like you would any top and it fits much easier. The front corners can be a pain to install especially the first time. Would have gotten five stars if not for the fading and plastic buckle issues. Five stars for value though!!
Price & quality
Easy use for me
Purchased for my 2001 TJ to use while I'm building a custom half hardtop. Fits mostly great and overall I'm very happy with the price to quality ratio of this purchase. Would not attach securely to the belt-rail groove on the no-drill header. Quick and easy fix: loosen the header channel bolts and put the plastic track under the front edge of the header instead of in the groove; tighten header down with track pinched between header and windshield frame. This is both easier and more secure than the recommended installation.
Cruising 65mph with doors and tonneau on with windows up there's very little noise, almost no flapping and wind is greatly reduced. Materials are quality and appearance is very sharp. I also like that at this price I don't feel like I have to baby it.
Looks good and covers well. It took some time to put on with only one person but thats because it fits very tightly. I gave it 4 because the plastic tighteners are cheap and the middle driver’s side attachment strap tightener snapped with very little force. I ended up tying the strap because I didn’t feel like going through the hassle of calling customer service and getting the top replaced since I would be without it for several days.
I wish I had looked more closely the reviews. How can you possible give something 5-stars before you've even received the product? Or installed it, used it, etc? VERY misleading. As far as the top goes, i gave it a 3 star. Fairly easy to install. It looks nice. BUT it should be more prominently pointed out that you'll need a new header to install the top itself. My bad for not reading the fine print. I've had the top balloon up 2 different times in 5 drives. One with a little wind and once with no wind. I've retightened the straps and put the piece back into the track each time. The front windshield track really isn't all that great. Will it work running around town on the 40mph roads, yes (though I still have my doubts). Would I take it on the highway, no. Not with the way it's designed now. Would I buy it again, no.
If half stars were an option I would probably bump it up to 3.5. This is by no means a bad product; it just leaves a little to be desired. Pros: I got what I paid for, if this cost more, my rating would be lower. This will do what I wanted it to, block the sun, and stop some rain. Even the first time, top was relatively easy to get on. Some reviews mentioned having a tough time getting into the channel/ needing to cut notches to make it around the corner on the side of the channel, etc. I didn’t experience too much of that, there were already notches cut in mine. After a couple of times installing, I’d estimate this could be put on with one person in 10-15 min tops. A step stool helped for the middle of the windshield, but isn’t 100% necessary. Cons: Flaps, a lot. Surprisingly it’s not that loud, but it is still there. The front half really balloons up when the wind comes around, anything 30+ mph sustained. Even in the short amount of time I’ve had it I think this has caused it to stretch some. This would probably be decreased if I had door surrounds, but if I am going to have door surrounds, I might as well get a full soft top. This causes it to not be tight when you’re parked, which isn’t a great look. The flapping and the pull from the front caused the back half to come forward up the sport bars, increasing the flapping. The rear straps should really go do and connect to the tub somehow instead of just looping around the sport bars. Other thoughts: Not as portable as I would like. I’m putting this in the section instead of cons, because it never claims to be. I had hoped that I cold fold/roll this up and keep it in the cargo area or under the rear seat. It would probably fit in either with no problems but the stripping for the windshield and door surrounds keep the top somewhat rigid in those areas and I don’t want to crease them. My other option was a mesh sunshade. All things considered, I do think I made the right choice, so far. I may still get a sunshade but I still really like the ability to have cover from the rain. The key will be to have it with me when I end up needing it. My rear passengers are used to climbing in from the rear bumper or over the rear tires, that’s not an option with this top. This and the fact that I am pretty sure I am never going to get the back tight to the sport bars really make me wonder if I should have just going with the bimini for the front instead of the bimini plus to cover the back seat. The bimini plus doesn’t cover the cargo area anyway. The top is able to be used with or without door surrounds and sound bars but I think my sound bar and no door surrounds make this fit not as tightly as it could have. You need a windshield channel. The MasterTop windshield channel installed easily and tightly. 5 stars there.
