Reviews for Bestop Trektop NX Glide Twill Soft Top for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK 4 Door
I really like this top and installation is not as challenging as I anticipated. I watched the Be stop install video on YouTube and it helped immensely. Now the negative. I had 2 screws that broke off when screwing in the rubber to the bows. The video makes it seem as if you can just drive them in however that is not the case. The first screw broke off using a cordless drill. The screw was only halfway so I was able to remove the broken piece with vice grips. I then thought, I should use a hand screwdriver as the screws cannot handle a drill. The second screw broke off using a screw driver. I had to remove the bow and drill the screw out. Luckily I had 2 screws on hand to replace the broken ones. I discovered that if I turn the screw till I feel resistance then back off and repeat until the treads are cut I had not problems. The broken screws added about an hour or so of extra work to the install. Overall I am happy with the top and the price being reduced by $430 was icing on the cake!
I purchased this top to replace my 10 year old stock soft top. I run the soft top year round in northern New England so this top will see all weather types. Pros: This is a good quality top. Is very easy to take out the windows and take the roof off. I can do this and store it in the storage bag accessory in about 10 minutes. This time could be shortened if I were taller and didn't have to literally climb in and out of the back of my Jeep. (I'm 5' 4" inches and have a 2" lift kit so I can't reach the glide portion from the ground.) This top is also very sound dampening, more so than my stock. Cons: The rear window channel keeps coming off of the roof connecting bar. The customer service at Quadratec was Excellent and they sent me a new roof. I spent a second Saturday morning, (it really does take 4 - 5 hours to install) taking my old roof off and re-installing the new one. The new roof has the same issue. After contacting Bestop via phone they have informed me that this was a known issue and they have since redesigned the rear window so that it no longer does this. I have sent Bestop their requested information and have received an email back saying that they are having higher than normal service requests and that they'll get back to me when they can. Not so sure I'm happy with that response. So as of right now, I have no resolution to this issue. Noticing some wear on the inside of the side window panels where it flexes around to the back. Going to have to improvise some sort of padding. The installation time is a bit long. It seems as if there could be certain parts that are come pre-assembled. Installation tip: Yes, watch the video. I kept an ipad nearby and installed while re-watching video. In addition, we had a challenge with Step 12 - part 2. The washers would keep coming off when we tried to slide it into the receiving end. I solved this by stringing dental floss through the entire thing before sliding it into the "U" channel. Once in, I would slide the floss out. In summary, once I can get this rear window issue sorted out, I will be very happy with this product. In general, it's a good quality product that is easy to take on and off.
Great Top...I purchased the upgraded twill and I wasn't disappointed. Looks great on the jeep. The fastback sets it off from other jeeps on the road. road noise is not as bad as i thought even on the highway at 70 mph. Installation was not that difficult. I did the majority of the work by myself except for lifting the top onto the jeep. I will say that you should watch the Bestop video multiple times. It will give you great tips for installation. One knock on the top is the inability to store the rear panel. You cant roll it up because of the ridged clips that tie the back to the two side panels. Taking the panels on and off is not difficult....i can take everything off in about 5 minutes and reinstall in 10.
What an amazing product by Bestop. The options and versatility add to the appeal. I love being able to have a fully enclosed soft top, which I can strip down to a bikini top, Sun Rider, or full convertible within minutes! Nice large rear window for high visibility. The new glides seal up nicely and greatly reduce wind and road noise along with it's aerodynamic design. No more hardtop whistles! All of that combined with the sleek design gives my jeep the look and functionality I was seeking. Great job Bestop!
Beware 2 things: i) the pics do not show 2 ugly arches that go on the top and yuck up the view when the top is open (you can see it in the instructions though, early on), sort of a false advertising in my opinion, and ii) also see the instruction posted here say it takes 4 hours (not the 1-2 posted on the site). It took me 6 hours. As for performance, eh. I liked just removing my hard top and going completely naked.
Two stars for being made out of solid material and looking good. Minus three stars for terrible instructions and the abysmal "slide" design, which is positioned as some sort of evolution from zippers, but is really just a way to control costs with a design that barely works. I've owned Wranglers for over a decade. Installing this top has me questioning whether I want to keep doing so.
It leaks on my driver side and passenger side even though it is put on properly
If I could give it a lower than one star I would. The glides on the back window will not stay in place after a little bit of use they’ll spread apart and not stay together. If you run with the front open but the back shut just on a nice quick day it’ll blow the back top seal out of the track. The right side has always lifted up in the wind and you can see outside and it lets the rain in.I’m looking to go to a zipper top or back to my hardtop
I really wanted to like this top, but it's terrible. The only good things about the top are the looks and the material - it's quality material that's quieter than the factory black diamond.
Now for the bad... According to Quadratec, I got the "new" version, which has a massive Bestop logo across the top. The top does not stay sealed - this week the wind blew it open and rain came in. Also, it's a pain in the ass if you want to use your trunk. The factory top was much easier to use.
Bottom line it's a good looking top but a massive disappointment. Certainly not worth the price.
After installing I found out that at speeds over 50 mph the top balloons up allowing water to leak in above the doors and also above the corners on the tailgate where it had 1" gap on both sides. I also had issues with the metal plate in the side window scratching the paint down to the metal due to it missing the protective felt.
