Reviews for Bestop 5492235 Trektop NX Glide Soft Top in Black Diamond for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK 2 Door
Overall, I like this top. It has a ton of features. I wanted a top with the glide windows, rather than zippers. I wanted a sun rider, but I still wanted to flip the top ALL of the way back. This top allows me to do all of that. I have the black diamond material to match my soft doors.
My biggest complaint with this top, is how snug it fits - or rather, the lack of "snugness". It seems VERY loose to me. It seals up just fine, I haven't had issues with water coming in. Granted, it has been 90+ most days I've had the top on which will loosen the fabric up. There was one day where it was only about 55-60 degrees, and I feel it was still very loose.
This hasn't caused any problems, it's just something I've noticed. Every other Jeep top I've ever had, there's NO WAY you could put it on brand new unless it was 75 or hotter. This top I feel like I could put on in the dead of winter and it would be just fine.
Really well built top, have used it for 2 years now (summer seasons only). 2 dr 2014 wrangler. Would get 5 stars but for a few things. 1. the back window, the bar on the bottom tends to slide out, as does the rubber gasket. 2. back window again, the rigid side rails that hold the window to the sides have tended to bend out, don't hold as tight as did when new. 3. Tough to put up and take down by yourself.
Positives: easy to throw back the top over the front row. When you open it, use your hand to push the material in under the front piece so it sits flat. Excellent materials. Fits really well, tight. Great top.
Nice top, easiest soft top I have ever had. Had to get replacement drivers side window because it was squeezing out of the slot at the back. Easy warranty claim with bestop
Not easy to install. Poor instructions. No videos. Fortunately I could get it done over 6 hours and I have built two cars. This thing comes in many pieces that could have been put together in the factory and should have been. Bestop Trektop NX Glide.
This top is Okay. The quality of the material is good. Now you really need to let these heat up in the sun before installing or you're going to have a tough time installing the windows. It leaks from time to time so its better for just a summer top if you live where it snows. Traveling with the windows off presents its own challenge even with the bag that Bestop also sells, but it helps. The grommets on the rear like to fall out after a few uses so superglue them right in. Overall pleased with the product.
Looks great, but the windows don’t store well.
My job has me on the road a lot during the week. I’m usually gone 3-4 days at a time, and there is no good way to take the windows along except having them installed on the Jeep. They can’t be rolled, and they are too big to lay flat in the back. It’s disappointing, and kinda of defeats the purpose of being able to take them off.
Could not wait to get this top, install took all of 4hrs with experience I'm a little OCD with this stuff, directions are not that clear and almost all videos are for 4door. Top looks great and I love the look but leaked behind both doors where top of side windows meet there is a tiny gap water poured in. It also leaked on the top where the cargo net is sewn into the top leaked on the stitching called bestop customer service is pretty good they are shipping me a new top. Hopefully this works. I still love the top by the way
Bought this top in March of 2018 and installed it in May of 2018. Installation wasn’t bad, but some the grommets and washers are pretty cheap plastic. You really need to let this top heat up before installation. And don’t try to put these windows in when it gets chilly at night.
Pros
-The fastback look is really nice.
-The material is pretty solid, and pretty quiet on the highway. No loud flapping.
-The bow does a good job of keeping water from pooling above the front seats.
-It’s only ever leaked once: driving rains during a hurricane. I can excuse that. It’s not made to be truly weather tight.
Cons
-About a month after installation, the drivers side track attached to the sail panel began to fail. Bestop sent me a new one.
-The tailgate bar is under a lot of tension from the back window, so it likes to turn out of its cradles. You also need to glue the plastic ends and rubber weatherstripping on the bottom of the bar, because Bestop can’t be bothered to do it.
-The rubber grommets in the rear frame push out with little effort, meaning the sail panels of the side windows don’t fit snugly anymore.
-The pin at the top of the sail panel of the right window just fell out this year.
-The windows are not easily stored, and cannot be rolled up.
-Putting this top up and down is a hassle. The two separate frames make it difficult to do with one person, and the first time I attempted it, I snapped the mounting pin on the right side. Bestop sent me replacement pins.
-This is a personal taste issue more than manufacturer’s issue, but I hate the sunrider. I never use it, and it makes putting the top up and down more difficult. But I think all Bestop’s products incorporate the sunrider now.
I would not buy this top again. It’s an awesome concept, but it’s a little half baked.
Not worth the money. Assembly is extremely aggravating as the paper instructions are terrible at best & then the YouTube video is done in a different order so you can’t go back & forth between the two. I can’t use the sun rider feature as the frame doesn’t snap into the door surrounds tightly so it pops out as soon as I release the front latches & lastly it leaks all over the place. This is my 4th Jeep & I've always bought bestop products but this is a far cry from the quality I’ve known over the last few decades.
All 3 window glide channels failed, causing windows to fall out. Bestop replaced them.
Leaks occurred at top of door, no clear reason. Rubber grommets holding side windows fall out. Contacted Bestop 7 weeks ago about problem and 3 other calls about grommets, still no replacement grommets. Replacement windows seem god so far.
