What size tire fits?
The Rugged Ridge Classic Rock Bumper Rear Tire Carrier with a 2" receiver for 1987-2006 Jeep Wrangler YJ and TJ models is designed to hold tires up to 35 inches in size. What is the 2” receiver for if it is not recommended for towing?
For things like bike racks or cargo racks.
What size are the Studs for the lug nuts? Are they 1/2 x 20 ?
Yes they are 1/2"x20 and spaced on a 5x4.5" pattern to match the drive wheels from those years
Do you have to drop the gas tank to install?
If you want to complete the install and use all of the bolts, giving the bumper its full strength then dropping the tank will be easier to access the 2 inner bolt positions on either side. You can attach using only the outside bolt positions without dropping the tank, but you lose some of the strength. Over time the welded plates could start to pull away from the frame if too much weight is placed in a carrier basket or on the tire carrier. This is actually the case for most of the bumpers for a YJ or TJ that have a hitch attached.
Can this be install on a factory rear bumper or does the rugged ridge bumper need to be purchased as well? Thanks!
No, this tire carrier only works with the included Rugged Ridge Classic Rock Bumper.
