Reviews for Kicker 6.75” Deluxe Speaker Upgrade Kit for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Perfect fit in my 2017 JKU Rubicon Recon. Even though I don't give these speaker sets 5 stars, I do wholehearted recommend them over your stock JK drivers. However, I would not recommend replacing any unless you're going to tackle all four. After installing just the soundbar pair I drove around a couple weeks like that and still had the dash speakers flubbing out at high volume. Nothing in the soundbar would drown that out except using the fader control to shut down the front speakers. FYI, all these speakers are identical whether you order the dash pair or the soundbar pair... the only difference is the weak set of instructions. The soundbar installation is truly a piece of cake. Before tearing into my dash, I watched two YouTube videos: one with the nice couple who edited everything to make it look easy yet quite involved, and another with the clumsy guy who struggled his way through and basically demonstrated that nothing about the job isn't insurmountable... I learned from HIS mistakes, and had zero problem with the job. I do recommend a ratchet with long reach sockets in both 7mm and 10mm. And for the driver's side, do yourself a huge favor and disconnect the wiring harness for the door, unhook the teather and let the driver's door swing all the way forward with a cushion or pool noodle between the door panel and the fender. It takes and extra minute or two, but with the door out of way, the driver's side isn't much worse that the passenger side. So yeah these speakers may not offer audiophile level performance, but for god's sake a jeep is NOT the environment for that. They DO enable you to enjoy your music loud enough to cut through the road/wind noise admirably... something the stock speakers could NOT do. Get 'em!
An awesome upgrade from the stock speakers
I have to say there is a definite improvement from the factory speakers. Not quite as good as I was expecting based off of the reviews but still quite noticeable. I was hoping for a little more bass as it tops out pretty significantly at higher volumes. I replaced both the overhead and dash speakers and also did the whole dynamat and polyfill as well. My recommendation is you read directions and watch you tube videos before you start. It took me about 3 hrs including all the dynamat and poly. Now that I have done it once and if I had actually read the directions I probably could have done it in <90 min. Overall for $320 a significant upgrade, but I'll need to spend more to get to where I want to be. Next stop... subwoofer
Great investment if you want better that factory sound without the hassle of leaving where they have to install and wire. Doesn't break the bank either.
Not all the peices were used for my year so the instructions weren't exactly correct.
Still pleased with my purchase!
Great upgrade. Easy install. First set I bought sounded blown. But new ones are a great improvement on stock speakers.
Fitment: Excellent. The speakers have three tabs that line up perfectly with the mounting holes in the overhead bar. The wiring that plugs into the factory speakers plugs into a pig tail on the new speakers.
Sound: Significantly better bass and highs than factory and can handle much more power. They seem to be lacking a little in the mid-range. Maybe supplement these with better quality all-around speakers in the doors.
Other: Do not bother with the kicker grills. While they might look cool, they only mount to the face of the speaker. The tabs and screws for mounting the speakers will remain exposed and detract from the looks. Stick with the factory grills.
okay, but pay attention to ohm ratings
Speakers: Great sound, far better then stock. Much better bass and no distortion at higher volume levels.
Rear Install: Very easy, total of 6 screws each. Directions say T-15 which works better for removal but they are really T-20 which works better for reinstall (or just use a magnetic Torx bit)
Front Install: Jeep made this far harder then it needs to be, the exact opposite of the ease of the rear.
These sounded awesome out of the box and were very easy to install. A month later however and both speakers are buzzing pretty badly with heavy bass. Volume on the factory radio is set to about 20-22 and the buzzing is very annoying.
At first I was pleased with these - better than stock but still not great - about as good as you can expect for just plugging something into the stock system. Doesn't really carry much base, the magnets (while larger than stock) just aren't up to perform.
2.5 years later, one of the speakers is blown. At $160/pr I would expect a bit more longevity, especially considering that these were built as specific replacements for the stock speakers.
Time to buy a different pair.
