Reviews for Smittybilt Nerf Step Side Bars for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door
Looks awesome but........ hardware sucked. Welds were mis aligned. Had to go buy new bolts for the pinch weld area. Had to put a floor jack under the center on both sides to even get the center bracket on pinch welds. Def need two people. Pictures were vague at best. Black and white with horrible contrast. Basically the only thing that was right was the brackets that went up into body tub. Only gave three stars because I like the way they look. Would have taken them back to a brick and mortar store for a refund if it was close. Bolt bag in the package was open and missing half of the bolts as well. Cost me an additional 60$ in parts (stainless bolts nuts and washers ) because of missing parts
They look great and installed fairly easily. Rusted in less than a year though. Now after 2 years, one of them has a hole rusted in it.
Like everyone else I had issues with the hardware and instructions. Only 6 of the 15 or so bolt included worked, fortunately I read many of the reviews and went to the hard ware store before starting. The instruction are useless not one part of them related to my installation. I do like the look and function of the bars and they are reasonably priced.
Not a fan of these. My kid and I are building up our '15 JKUR AEV350 and though we'd install something that would help the women folk in the house better access the lifted Jeep. It does the job as the steps are a good bit below the level of the door sill. However, the included hardware was nearly impossible to install (pinch weld nuts and bolts) so we ended up using 8mm hardware instead. Once installed, they do work as intended but they will flex a bit when i get in (I weigh 185#). Two other issues, the front pipe terminates w/o a cap so anything the front tire kicks up may end up inside the tube. I'm not sure if they forgot to put a cap on or it's designed that way. Second, it came dented which was likely a stocking or shipper problem but not worth returning. Lastly, just know that these are beauty steps and not designed to be rocker guards. I don't intend to wheel this too hard but i just know the first rock that augers down the side will kill these steps. Overall they work for the intended purpose but not well thought out in several ways.
These side steps are the same as the Nfab steps and even has Nfab name on steps. Smittybilt just puts a sticker with their name on it. The textured finish is more like an alligator skin texture and doesn't match the textured finish on my bumpers. Lastly there was rust already inside the open end of the tube that needed to be sanded down and repainted before installation.
