Reviews for Kentrol Stainless Steel Tailgate Hinges for 97-03 Jeep Wrangler TJ
Work great. Had to have shop install. After 18 years, the old screws did not want to come out and I stripped them. They had to drill out. They look great.
I purchased these for my 1999 Jeep Wrangler. The quality is very good, with no up and down play, and they fit perfectly... The included color matching hardware was a huge plus! They completely covered the unpainted areas (which I cleaned and painted black before installing the new hinges) that were under the old factory hinges. I love the look of the black hinges against the green paint of the Jeep, and I can open and close the tailgate again!!!
Love these. Mopar replacements are really expensive. These look better and work great.
Great quality
Heavy duty, quality item. Great choice, no issues.
had them for oh about 5 years now. Can't complain. The coating isn't the best and it is starting to peel but paired with stainless fasteners these things will never rust or start to bind up like the factory aluminum hinges.
I like these because they are factory design. I don't like the ugly black "heavy duty" hinges.
I would definitely recommend these to a friend. I have the stainless version and they are bright just like chrome. I took the spare off the tailgate before installing and that was a great help. I closed the tailgate before tightening the bolts for the final time and it made a big difference. The tailgate actually fit better after the install (which says more about the last person to tighten the old hinges than it says about the new hinges). The old hinges were broken when I got the Jeep so it swung open until the hinge hit the tail light (and broke it). The stop in the new hinges is different and I don't see how they could break so that Is much better. The new hinges do not cover the same area on the body as the stock hinges and the body is painted with the stock hinges in place so an area of unpainted body will be exposed when the stock hinges are removed. I painted my body with gloss black paint and kept it as close as possible to the hinge area and still made sure I covered the exposed area. Get a can of touch up spray paint to match your body color before you do the swap.
These are excellent hinges. Required a little adjustment to get the door to open and close properly. What a huge difference from my old corroded hinges. It's like a dream opening the tailgate now! If you are looking at buying these, do yourself a favor and throw out the factory nut plate retainers the Jeep came with. The hardware that's included is ok, not the best. The screws were meant for looks for the most part. I recommend just using nuts and washers on the backside where the bolts would normally thread into, will hold just as good. You can't get enough torque on the screws to go through the old nutplates. You'll be very happy with these hinges if you take my nutplate suggestion!!
Are a little less in quality then the factory ones but, did the trick!
