Reviews for Flowkooler 1747 Water Pump for 87-01 Jeep Cherokee XJ
Awesome replacement only down side is it didn’t t come with the new studs it’s showed with
I have a 2000 XJ that was prone to running hot when crawling in summer temps. Had a real problem with vapor lock in the fuel rails. Since I've installed this pump, I haven't had that problem at all, even though the heat shielding separating my fuel rail and my engine has mysteriously disappeared. Now, anyone scientifically minded knows that "correlation does not imply causation," so I can't definitively say that the Flow Kooler is THE REASON that I haven't had any additional problems, but it is the only thing I've changed. I know what conclusion I come to based on those facts, but I can only recommend that you give it a try yourself.
Quality product but I have seen no improvement in engine temps with this even after installing a new radiator at the same time
No difference over stock pump with an unmodified 4.0. Made a 4.7 stroker overheat. Also ran a Flowcooler on a 2004 LJ with a stock 4.0. Caused the computer to throw CEL codes for the engine taking too long to reach operating temp, but didn't otherwise cool any better than stock.
DO NOT BUY. I put a new on on my XJ as preventative maintenance, thinking I was upgrading. 6 months later my Jeep was overheating spent two days to figure out the pump just stopped working. LESS THAN 1K MILES in a year with problems..
If you have a 96 or a 97 XJ do not get this one. The fan hub working height on part 1747 is NOT correct! It will be too short. You need part 1748 from Flowkooler. Found this out after reassembling and putting fluids back in so just trying to help someone else before they run into the same issue. Quadratec does not offer 1748 on their website you have to call them.
I had my mechanic, a Jeep Certified Technician, install this less than 4 years ago. My wife only drives about 5,000 miles a year. It's a 1999 XJ with less than 75K original miles. This has bearing play in less than 20,000 miles. It was installed somewhere between 55K and 60K with about 72 K on it currently. I'm extremely disappointed that I paid approximately 1/3 more than competitive products, but it didn't hold up as well as OEM pump that was 15 years old and still going strong. In retrospect, I should have never replaced a H2O pump on an XJ as preventive maintenance, but I thought that I was improving upon the factory part. Lesson learned.
