I have dreaded taking on this project. The passenger side door handle was badly rusted. Then I started having problems with the door locking mechanism. That was it, I had to get this done!

I watched Quadratec’s video (which was excellent) along with reading all the reviews. The one that stuck out was the recommendation to remove the door and do the work on a table, which I did. (Great idea!) However, on a 20 year old TJ that may have NEVER had the full doors removed I was in for a fight getting this off. I did prevail though and found it pretty easy to do this job on a table.

Recommendations:
1) Be very patient. And keep Q’s video handy.
2) Be very careful as you are working around the window glass.
3) Once you have the new Door Handle in place, Check to be sure the Plastic covering IS NOT wrapped around the edge of the new door handle, otherwise when you are done there will be small strips of plastic you can’t remove entirely, that’s what I did. I simply wasn’t willing to remove the door handle to get these out.
4) Use this opportunity to clean up the door hinge. I used 320 grit Wet Sandpaper to remove all the gunk and rust from the post. Then I got out my gun cleaning kit to find a wire brush small enough to clean the plastic insert.
5) Smile at a job well done! But I still have the driver’s door to do as soon as my back ordered handle comes in. :-)
