Reviews for Old Man Emu 2.5" Suspension System for 87-95 Jeep Wrangler YJ
My YJ drives like a new Jeep. I had a previous lift kit that may as well have been made from stone. Now it's smooth enough to fall asleep behind the wheel, and it articulates like never before. I wish I would have purchased and installed this kit years ago. I would have saved a ton on chiropractic care. BEST UPGADE EVER!!!
Improve the ride quality of me jeep a lot. i combined this kit with Crown automotive HD shackles and a 1 inch body lift and im running 33 inch tires. only complaint is the shocks do not have a metal dust shield and pictured, they have a plastic dust shield and rub the paint off the shock over time.
Would be nice if it came with directions such as which bushing goes where. They are numbered for some reason.
Awesome lift!!!!
I sprayed all of the bolts with pb blaster a couple of days before the installation. I found out that no matter how much you spray them, if you don't hit the threads with a wire brush, the pb blaster doesn't soak in. The day before the installation, I hit the threads with a wire wheel on my drill and sprayed with pb blaster. Every bolt came off without a hitch. If instructions were included, I have not found them yet. That kind of makes it easier.
I borrowed an air compressor and impact wrench which made life much better. Just faster really. 2.5 hours for the left rear, then just an hour for the right rear. About 4 hours for the front. The transfer case drop was straight forward. About 20-30 minutes. No vibrations noticed. The ride is much better than factory. I did not have to disconnect the trac bars. I did use a ratchet strap to pull the springs on the spring/shackle so that the axle would line up properly with the ubolt plate alignment hole. Overall it was an easy 8-9 hour project. I have never installed a lift or worked on suspension components so I think it worked out great. Tools used:
1/2", 9/16", 17mm(for new shock nut), 3/4", 13/16", and 7/8" sockets
Impact wrench
Impact driver
24" breaker bar
1/2" drive ratchet
Crowbar
Ratchet strap
Hammer
3/8" drive extension(to knock out the smaller metal bushing insert. Did not locate one with bushing kit)
Rubber mallet
2-high lift jack stands(22" support height or so)
18" floor jack
Smaller jack(for tensioning springs while floor Jack controlled axle height)
Hope this helps. I would definitely purchase again.
Ordered kit on Monday and it arrived Thursday.
Attached are before and after pictures with 31x10.5 Bfg ko2 on 99 jeep Cherokee 15x8 rims with 1" backset.
Lift kit rides better than stock and flexes well off road. So far best riding lift I have rode in on a YJ One little issue I have no idea if it's installed correct, no instructions and no tech support don't ask because you will get a different answer each time you call. Have installed twice so far and that will get one star for being a real pain in the butt.
