Reviews for Old Man Emu OMESD40 Nitrocharger Steering Stabilizer for 84-06 Jeep Cherokee XJ, Grand Cherokee ZJ, Wrangler YJ, Wrangler TJ & Unlimited
Worked great
This stabilizer provides very smooth steering, huge upgrade over stock. The bushing was too wide to it on the axle mount and needed to be shaved about 1/4 inch on each side. Other than that very simple and quick install.
So you buy an Old Man Emu Steering stabilizer to match your Old Man Emu shocks... you pay a premium thinking they are made in Adelaide at the Australian Monroe plant like the other OME shocks. Then you get this Made in Mexico rebadged Monroe shock that is painted yellow (poorly) that is worth probably half what you paid. These are regular Monroe stabilizers painted yellow. If you need to have your stabilizer match your shock and it’s worth it to pay a premium for the brand slapped on it buy it. Otherwise, just get the SC2928 from Monroe and spray paint it yellow if you wish. That’s all this is. That’s not a bad thing at all but I was expecting better quality like you see from the Australian-made product. A massive disappointment.
The cheap powdercoating or paint started falling off during installation. Although OME advertises this as a nitro charged shock, there is very little charge to it and performance is similar to a hydro stabilizer. I am comparing this to my experiences using both hydro stabilizers and more expensive charged stabilizers.
Either I was sent the wrong part. OMESD40. Or, the bolt which goes through the stabilizer to the pitman arm is wrong. It's too big. Im not sure if I should drill out the original hole or not.
