Reviews for J.W. Speaker 0347531 279 J Series LED Tail Light Kit for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler
Very nice
I bought these before a trip to Kansas last winter. My thoughts were to be well seen from the rear in a snow storm. Some co-workers have mentioned how they can see me 3-blocks away with ease and the brake lights leave no doubt that you are stopping. The instructions and previous reviews were helpful. I had a minor hiccup with the left one but worked it out. Both lights fit tight against the body. Occasionally I see a little condensation in the lights but I have not found any defects allowing moisture in so I just live with it.
Installed these tail lights on a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Sport. Driver's side install was quick and easy. I spent a little extra time using a couple of zip ties to manage the bundle of wires and plugs in this area as the instructions indicated the resistor could get hot and wires should not touch it. As my Jeep has a trailer harness, this area is a bit crowded with wires and plugs, so I bundled it all up to make it easier to stuff down the body cavity when I mounted the light itself. The passenger side installation took a bit more time as I could not get the plastic 'ears' on the light to slide behind the metal body panel of the Jeep. I padded a pair of pliers and GENTLY re-shaped the body panel outwards no more than a millimeter. The light then slipped in easily and once screwed in, I had a very clean and tight installation like on the driver's side. Not many wires on the passenger side, so no zip ties needed. I was going to re-install my brush guards that I had on the original lights, but found that the two outside original screws were not long enough to utilize the spacers. Longer replacement screws solved the problem. Then I noticed that the guards, with their horizontal bars, blocked some of the lights. The bottom bar went right across the middle of the back-up light, another bare covered one of the red tail light bars, and another bar partially covered another red bar. Brush guards off until I can figure out a solution to this problem. I agree with others on the brightness of the back-up lights. I solved this problem with the original lights by installing Smittybilt XRC Gen II bumpers, the rear of which has built-in LED back up lights. I also installed a pair of LED short light bars on the bumper by fabricating a bracket that attached to the rear of the bumper via the bolt holding the skid pad to the bumper. I originally spliced these lights into the wiring in the original lights, but now Quadratec has available a harness (part #97109.0924; $29.99) that I used. Simple plug and play at the tail light end. The harness came with plugs on the other end, too, but the lights had no plug. I simply snipped off the harness plugs and installed a new matching set. I have downloaded a photo (Illinois license plate) showing this whole thing. Now, when in Reverse, the back of my Jeep lights up like a stadium and I have a clear, bright view in all three mirrors. These tail-lights are expensive; however, with the included resistor and resistor mounting bracket and the ease of installing that resistor and the tail lights themselves, it is well worth the bucks. My lights work exactly as they did with the original tail lights, including the turn signals. Not having to mess with other components of the lighting system is well worth the price. Highly recommended.
love these, look great, simple plug and play installation.
JW Speaker products always fit good and work great, this was no exception.
Great Tail Lights. Easy to install
I went with these after my second set of off road only led taillights had problems. I loved the look of the off road only lights but these are clearly a more well put together package and I didn't have to wire in my own resistors.
4.5 out of 5 is closer. Fit and assembly were easy, and the resistor mount solution was good (all prewired) and fairly easy to fit. The reason for 4.5 out of 5 is back up lights are not much brighter that the OEM tail lamps (where I added high brite LED bulb). The directional and braking functions (and illumination) are FAR better than OEM. All in all, glad they are American made vs cheaper foreign made that have fit issues as noted by friends who tried them out.
Originally purchased JW Speakers, they didn’t sit right and had about a 1/8” gap on the outside, between the light and tub, when tightening the inside screws. With the recommendation of Nick from customer service, I tried these lights. They fit perfectly, look good and blend right in like the originals. As far as people saying it took 20-30 minutes, a lot less! Set your screw gun at a low torque, so as not to crack the lights. Took five minutes (excluding opening the box). Great lights at a great price. Thanks, Nick! This is why I shop Quadratec over Amazon for Jeep stuff...
Good quality & BRIGHT. My only negative is there is no side flasher for turn signal.
