Reviews for Rugged Ridge 18050.88 HD Steering kit with Damper for 84-06 Jeep Cherokee XJ, Grand Cherokee ZJ, Wrangler TJ & Unlimited
It took about an hour to put on, easy to do. Took my death wobble away do too old steering link wore out. I would recommend for 3-to-4-inch lift. I have a 2-inch spring bushing lift and I had to shift the hollow shafts to the driver side to clear the c-clamps. Other than that, this kit is awesome!
XJ fitment!
Easy to install and did gain a little bit of clearance which is good. I'll have less of a chance of bending the tie rod like I have done in the past with factory style.
As noted by another customer, this will not work with factory 15 or 16 inch wheels. I bought this about a year and a half ago. (Accumulating parts for the build) Very nice quality setup. As noted in instructions and it will not work with 15 inch wheels with 4.5 inch backspacing. The stock wheels will hit the tie bar at a slight left turn. Got it installed on my '99 XJ with 2001 16 inch OEM wheels with 4.5 inch backspacing. It will not clear those either, the rim hits the drag bar end link, although it turns a bit more than with the 15 inch wheels.
Because I am not going to run different wheels, I will need to use the stock style of steering linkage.
I am pleased with the quality, instructions were sufficient, and I would recommend this to anyone running 17 inch (or other than 15 inch wheels with less than 4 inch backspacing).
Need antiseez on components but works grate for a weekend worrier home joint system is stronger but unless your rock bouncing this works great
This is a much beefier/better steering kit than the stock one. Nice quality items were used on all the parts except the grease boots. They will tear quickly - less than 3 months. So just change them during your install for better ones. Overall I have been very pleased with my purchase.
Placed on '89 cherokee to help with "death wobble". Easy install for novice mechanic.
THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH STOCK RIMS. My only complaint. Other than that its a beautiful steering system...might think about putting in another steering stabalizer. But the jeeps always been like that. I put this on my 99 wrangler tj to prepare for bigger tires and rims. And its a good thing i had planned to get 17 inch rims because thats what i needed for better clearance. Or spacers to hold the rim out more. But the main arm passenger knuckle scraped a good 1/8" of metal off my stock rim
Steering not woth the money. Had alot of play even after installing the washers that came with it. Within the first hundred miles the grease boots where torn and falling off. Ended up swapping to cavfab steering in less that 500 miles
