Reviews for Quadratec Compact Cargo Rack for 2" Receiver Hitch
This rack is great. I like that its a bit smaller than most of the big ones you see and the price is perfect. I use this rack with a hitch tensioner I found that just keeps it from bouncing around too much. I had two "cube" coolers on the rack with space to spare. With that set up I could easily haul 5 or 6 cases of beer, easy! I have a 31" spare tire on a OEM TJ spare mount and theres tons of clearance. I can even open the tailgate just enough to let my dog in and out. If you want a cheap rack that works, I don't think you can do better.
Excellent for the price
Well made, but not for JL. You need the versahitch receiver and they don’t make that for the JL. Had I known this bib wouldn’t have bought it obviously. The item seems to be well made and Quadratec has been great about the return process
Valuable for shopping
Love the rack and the look of it. Love that I can open my tailgate enough with my 33" tire to get my dogs in and out. Reason I didn't give it 5 stars is it wobbles around in the receiver and I will have to invest in a hitch tightener to hopefully stop the wobble. We'll see how it holds up during camping and hunting season
I have not yet put this through any sort of off road use but so far this is a great basket - especially for the price point. I am quite happy with it. Product came in 5 pieces and everything went together easily except for the final cross member (the small piece that connects the two sides of the basket together). The bolt holes for this did not line up (were off by a good 1/4"). I had to try a few different methods it to fit but otherwise it is a very solid basket, and I am very pleased with the purchase. As i say with a lot of my other purchases, would be great if the black basket was supplied with black hardware.
I dropped 1 star for the bolt holes not lining up
Just assembled the rack, went together really easy. My only complaint is when tightening the bolts on the rear cross brace, the paint cracked. As I’m taking it to the beach in 2 weeks, I applied a coat of paint to this spot to prevent rust. The bolt was barely tight, so I’m kinda surprised.
Great rack overall. I bought it because it was a little more narrow then the others and I did not want to have a lot of extra width on trails and so forth. Also the rise after the hitch provides more ground clearance then the kind that comes straight out. I have used it on many road trips loaded down with gear and had no problems what so ever. There is one annoyance that I have grown to live with though and that's the fact you cannot open the tailgate all the way while this is on the back of the Jeep, even when it's empty the door contacts the rail on the back of the rack.
It works well enough but it's crooked/lopsided, even if I use a hitch tightener and it drives me crazy to look at it but it does the job.
Good value for what you get- just some minor issues. I like the increase in ground clearance versus most cargo baskets; however, you cannot fully open the rear gate (about 1/3 of the way) with the empty basket attached on a Jeep Wrangler JK with stock Sahara wheels and tires. I was of the understanding based upon the Q/A section that you could open the gate fully with stock wheels and tires. Also, after the first rain (no salt- I’m in Texas) I already noticed rust. Looks like I’ll have to be touching it up with some rattle can paint to prevent corrosion.
