Reviews for SummitView Rear Vision Back Up Camera System for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK with Factory Nav Radio
Installed in about 3 hours. Works great.
Just installed on 2016 JKU. Installation was fairly simple with the included instructions. The instructions posted online and those that are described in the previous review are slightly different. I'm not sure if they've changed their wiring or something but it is much less complicated than expected. As previously mentioned, you will need to remove the radio (not part of the instructions), which means you need to take out a good portion of the dash to gain access to the 4 screws securing the radio.
This camera works great on my factory 430 radio despite having the non-navigation version.
Fits factory system
Very easy install 4 beers and 2 1/2 hours later it was done. Instructions are ok only issue I had was inverting the view, instructions say if you want to invert it connect the white wires mine were connected. So I cut them to flip the view. Same thing with the backup lines if you want them connect the green wires, again mine connected so I cut we now have backup lines. The white and green wire are on the camera end by the spare tire holder.
Installed 9002-8837 on my stock ‘17 JKU Hard Rock. I’m inexperienced and it took 4 hours to install. I watched YouTube videos for step-by-step help because the directions weren’t helpful. I also used the Quadratec 12v Power Tap so I didn’t have to splice any wires. Note: The camera Red and Green wires both get connected to the power 12v red (positive) wire. You’ll also need panel trim removal tools to make the job easier. No parking guidelines on my display.
Works well. Slow installation, but the instructions are accurate. You do need brighter backup lights to get satisfactory night vision.
This was a very easy install, went with the non adjust able mount, and as mentioned in another review it is disappointing that there are no parking lines. This was installed on a 2 door Willys.
I ran the wires near the tire slightly different as shown in the photo. I was not a fan of running the wires through the vent and having the flap stay open. With the tire removed i noted the grommet to the right of the tire carrier and ended up cutting a slice in it and running the wire through that instead. inside the vehicle was very easy and I had ordered the 12 volt power adaptor from quadratec to make the power wire splicing even easier.
As far as the OBD2 adaptor goes, this Jeep did not come with the 430N, it originally had a 130s. The adaptor worked with no issues incase anyone was worried about that.
Purchased the camera for my 2 week old 2017 JKU Rubicon. While I know many technology bells and whistles on Jeeps dont exist I simply couldn't get over not having either a camera or back up sensor with small kids around.
So glad I purchased! Install was for the most part very simple. I did scratch the dash popping out the automatic window controls so be sure to use tape or a cloth on when popping it out. I also used T-Taps from the local auto store for $1.95 over choosing to solder. There are several videos on You-tube that walk step by step through.
The ONLY thing preventing 5 stars is that the camera at night is not great. This may be more an issue of the back up lamps than the camera itself. I am going to look at swapping out the back up lights.
Just installed the 9002-8837 in my wife’s 2013 Unlimited. It is very cool to have this OEM style system!
The instructions keep me from giving this 5 stars… the system isn’t exactly like any video currently on youtube. (There is a lot of good tips out there- just watch out for the chassis harness!)
1. The harness is different (it is actually easier to install). The photo on the first page of the instruction shows a black connector on the 2 supplied harnesses. This connector is not on these harnesses- and it isn’t needed, but it is confusing because it does not look like what was supplied in the box.
2. You have to remove the radio! It doesn’t say this anywhere. I suggest right after Step 26- then jump to Step 31 / 32 / 33. Then go to step 27.
3. Step 28 and 29 are confusing! Here is what it should read:
Step 28: Run red and green wires from chassis harness to ignition-controlled power point on HVAC panel.
Step 29: Splice together BOTH red and green wires to blue/red wire on back of power point.
(We don’t need to know one of these is 12v and the other is the trigger wire if they go to the same place!)
Thanks!
Overall, the installation is dead easy, just time consuming to do it right. Get a set of plastic interior trim tools to save yourself some trouble - they're very handy for removing fasteners and panels without marring.
The instructions are fine, and accurate for the most part. Some of the online videos seem to be installing a different version, but are still informative. This version is actually easier - a previous reviewer has highlighted the differences well.
The OBD-II flash works flawlessly, and the screen is very good. This system looks and feels very OEM - almost.
So why three stars, and not five? Two main reasons. Firstly, there doesn't seem to be an option to have grid lines with this camera, which surprised me, as the "adjustable camera" model does. The product descriptions do not mention this, and leave the impression that the adjustable camera version merely has a camera head that adjusts to accommodate different wheels. In fact, Quadratec actually recommends the standard camera with five-spoke wheels. Quote: "Note, if you have a typical 5 spoke alloy wheel similar to the one pictured, we recommend using a pre-adjusted camera mount kit to save installation time. All open spoke wheels may use the kits with adjustable camera mounts including 5 spoke wheels". Maybe they aren't aware of the added difference. Anyway, I was very disappointed with not having this feature at this price, and to not have this included in the product description.
The second issue is a more minor one. The camera lens becomes contaminated with water much more quickly than any other rear vision camera I've owned. In fairness, they were all OEM and mounted under lips on the tailgate, whereas this one sticks its neck right out there. I may try to shroud it with a small cover to try and keep some of the spray off it.
Overall a good system, but if you want backup lines, get the adjustable. And I really hope the manufacturer and retailers do a better job of highlighting this difference in their literature.
