Reviews for QuadraTop Premium Sailcloth Replacement Soft Top in Black Diamond for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK 2 Door
This top is nice quality, except for the rear window zipper. The description said new, improved zipper with heavy duty plastic teeth. This is definitely NOT the case. The rear window zipper is NOT a heavy duty zipper, and I started to have problems with the rear window zipper within a few weeks of purchase. The rear window zipper needs to be MUCH heavier duty!
The sail cloth material is of good quality, and the windows are as well. I installed this on a 2012 2 door, and the first time to tried to unzip the back window the zipper pull broke. Next the material connecting the sail cloth to the window zipper side windows is not very good, as my passenger side has pulled away making it very difficult to engage the zipper. The main gripe I have is the rear window. It’s not the same as the Mopar stock window. It’s an inch short height wise, and you will see daylight between the tailgate bar and tailgate. Yes mine does leak if it rains hard at the tailgate. Next the rear window is also 6 inches narrower, making it difficult to open the back window, as the tailgate bar catches the sails. This also means the rear window doesn’t lock into the body like a stock top does. It relies solely on the tailgate bar. Lastly it doesn’t have good storm flaps. They’re to small, and leave a very large opening between the top and window. This allows spiders, mosquitoes and deer flies to get in, and yes water. The sails warped at the base where it hooks to the body within about 2 weeks making the gap between the top and window even larger. My top was loose overhead, and required me to purchase a “top prop” to tighten it up for both wind flap, and water pooling on top. I do have a whistle in the winter time near the header bar for some reason, but it’s not too bad. It’s a decent top with some issues, and could be a great top if they redo the back window set up, zipper pulls, and mating of zipper the windows. Outside of those issues described where water gets in, the rear of the top hasn’t leaked in the 2 1/2 years I’ve had it.
The zipper on the rear window on my old top finally gave out and it's always a roll of the dice when buying aftermarket. I will only pay more for Mopar when it's mechanical. The windows are nice and the fabric on the Quadratec seems ok bit it's a little loose fitting on my '08. (I installed new bow straps prior to installing top). The previous top was a "Pavement Ends" and it fit much better and tighter. The rear windows have ripples as do the side seams where it meets the body. Zippers are cheap feeling and not the same quality or weight as the previous top. I will say it is quieter but that's most likely due the old top not being installed correctly to the header. We'll see how long this one lasts as I suspect the zippers will be the first thing to go. I cannot recommend this top due to the ill fit and cheap zippers.
Had this too for about 1 year now top works fine but is to big for my 08 jk can’t take off back windows or the sides of the roof that hold on the back will just slide out and flap in the wind normally I have to either enjoy as sunroof open and everything else on or all of it off still better than the leaking old roof but quality could be better
I bought this I little over a year ago. Install was easy. It didn't take long for the rear pieces on either side of the rear window to warp and not fit right. Today a zipper broke on one of the windows. In my experience this product doesn't have much longevity.
1 star for this item as I was never able to use it. The issue started in July of 2021 when a window zipper failed on an existing quadra top on my 2009 2dr Sahara. I was told I could not buy a new window as the top had been discontinued but they would send me a brand new replacement top at no charge. I was happy with that. The top arrived and it had springs and cables where as my existing top did not, my stock frame has no accommodations for them either. There were also a couple of rubber pieces that appear to have been meant for the existing door surrounds but there was nothing in the instructions on what to do with them. I put the top on as best I could. It was very noisy and I was concerned about the fit over the doors. I contacted Quadratec to explain. They said I must have received the wrong top and they would send the right one out. At that time I also ordered a new windshield header in case mine was warped. New top arrived and it was the same as the one they had previously sent. Talked to another Qhadratec rep that said I needed a new frame to be able to get the top to properly fit. The new frame was part of a complete top kit that included the top. The new top arrived in September, the frame followed in November. It wasn't until May 2022 I could put the new frame and top on. In the meantime I returned all the other tops and the windshield header to Quadratec using the return labels they provided. I started by assembling the frame and mounting it on the jeep. I noticed that the rear bow as several inches higher and a few inches forward from what I remembered from my stock frame. I measured the distance between the center bow and rear bow and noted that the new frame distance was 2 1/2 to 3 inches shorter than my stock frame. Contacted Quadratec again. They said the frame must be defective, we'll send you another. When it arrived I was encouraged as the size and shape of the box was different than the first frame. Assembled the frame (without checking the center bow to rear bow distance, my bad) and mounted it on the jeep. Much to my dismay, it had exactly the same issue as the first frame. Contacted Quadratec again. They suggested I move the strap on the center bow from under to over the bow (or the other way around, I don't recall). It only made about a half an inch difference. Contacted Quadratec again and was told that they would get back to me in a few days. After a week went by a contacted Quadratec again. Explained my situation to yet another representative. Final resolution was they sent me return labels for the 2 frames and the top. I shipped all of it back to them, upon receipt, they credited my credit card for the cost of the frame. So, even though it took over a year and I don't have a Quadratec top, I'm ok with the customer service and support I received. Fortunately I also have the hard top which was on and off the jeep quite a few times during this evolution. Looking at alternate sources for a soft top that is specific to 2007-2009 Wranglers.
Instructions are clear as mud. The rear bow attachment is designed totally different that the original and the pics in the instructions manual. I bought Quadratec brand shocks and was very happy with my purchase. I do not recommend this top.
The GOOD: Installation is pretty straight forward - except for an older model JK like mine (2008) where QUADRATEC fails to provide instructions on how cable conversion system works….
The BAD: ZIPPERS ARE POOR POOR POOR QUALITY. During installation, passenger side window zipper broke at “start point”. After waiting ~10 days for new top, as I was removing rear window, that zipper broke too! I can already tell with replacement for the replacement that these zippers will likely fail too…
Also - this top has conversion for “rain gutters” over doors - QUADRATEC doesn’t tell you this top does not have the factory style “roll under tabs” to ensure a tight fit over doors…
Let’s see how long this piece of junk lasts… QUADRATEC - ARE YOU LISTENING??
Back window zipper pulled out 1st. day, took forever for replacement window to arrive. Then left side window zipper pulled out exactly the same place, explained problem with the zippers. They sent new replacement window yesterday and its the wrong one???????? what kind of rating do you give??
DO NOT BUY THIS TOP! I've had this on for 2 years and the zippers are no longer functional. The zippers on this top are absolute garbage, so much worse than the OEM. The zipper pulls broke almost immediately after I installed it. The zippers have been infuriating from day 1, the teeth are tiny, and it is constantly skipping teeth, separating and binding. At this point it is all but impossible to zip the back window if it is removed, the zippers simply will not go around the corners. I have tried zipper lube, white lithium spray, and even axle grease, nothing helps. As far as the rest of the top, I would not call this premium, it is about the same as OEM material. The velcro that is supposed to hold the flaps on the side windows doesn't even come close to lining up. I wish so badly I hadn't purchased this. I used to buy Quadratec stuff but this is the last Quadratec brand item I will ever buy. They should be ashamed to put their name on this garbage.
