Reviews for Bestop 42643-01 Interior Console Lock Box for 11-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Perfection my needs. Excellent security for the price.
This works well and is fairly easy to install. It seems sturdy and is able to hold a full size pistol, but of course it depends on the exact size. It is awkward getting in the center console to drill the 1/8” pilot holes, as they are a little far down inside. After some frustration, I decided to just drill in the provided self tapping screws as much as possible (on an angle) and finish by hand with a ratchet. Everything ended up tight, straight and secure. One little gripe is that I notice the lid rattling when idling.
Build quality is good and overall design is good EXCEPT for two things.
Minor - there is too much slop between the lock and tab which allows too much rattle.
Major - the box is only held in place by two self-tapping screws in the plastic of the console
Yes your stuff is locked in a box but a determined thief could easily take the box with them.
I would have given 3 stars or less. Excuse of this but the box is built well and with a little extra work on my side, it can be made to be very secure.
If I were to do it over again, I’d have just bought the underseat box.
Installed very easily. Only minor complaint it needs a rubber gasket around the edge because it will rattle some.
Great sense of security for a 2 door JK, especially since this is essentially the only option on newer 2 doors. Same annoyance others have stated is that the key needed to open.
I think the most important feature about this security console, which I do not see pointed out anywhere, is the Bestop security console lets you keep using the factor upper console tray, whereas the Tuffy security console requires the upper factory console tray to be removed. That is a huge difference to me. My only complaint is that you can only open and close it with the key. So, you can not just unlock it when you get in the vehicle and lock it when you leave, you have to unlock it every time you want to use it. That is because the key can not be removed unless it is locked, and there is no handle to open it with other than the key. I am going to experiment with making a handle and just turning it to the locked position without closing it, so I can remove the key. The Bestop security console is actually heavier gauge than I was expecting and does provide good security. However, you do lose some storage space at the bottom of the console where it widens out, but the security console has straight sides that are the same dimension top to bottom as the opening at the top. I think this in unavoidable with any security console, otherwise it would not fit.
Fits great easy to install and let's things stay locked away. Not the most secure but for driving a tent on wheels it's good enough for me.
This unit will fit a 2016 JK, however, will require a bit of trimming around the USB connection. Wasn't much of a problem with a Dremmel and a bit of touch up paint.
It would be helpful to have a small (ring) handle on the lid so it can be opened without a key.
