Reviews for Quadratec QR3 Dual-Tube Rear Bumper for 87-06 Jeep Wrangler YJ & TJ
Excellent quality and powdercoating.
Great value, still amazed how inexpensive this was. The hitch is well made and beefy. Installation was simple once the old bumper came off. You can install it alone in an hour or so. Gloss black finish cleans up nicely once installed. Looks really nice on the Jeep.
Nice fit.
Love the look. Great price. Install is easy except for the bolts towards the inside of the jeep. You cannot get to them without dropping the gas tank.
Was hard to install, only reason I didn’t give five stars. You will need to drill four holes, not a big deal for most. Right side you’ll be able to fit your fingers behind with a little skill, but I had to sleep on a way to do the left side. My 2006 has no room, and unless you drop the tank, I see no other way less you do what I did. I used speaker wire, striped back about four inches. Fish it through the holes (see my pictures). The you need to assemble bolt in this order to keep the inside from spinning. Bolt, lock washer, washer, then wrap wire around the bolt and use a little black tape to hold the wire in the threads. Pull wire back out and place remaining washer and nut, tighten and torque. Hope this helps you out, should only take you a couple of hours to install knowing this trick.
First of all, I bought the textured black finish and they look great, as advertised. However, echoing Joshua H.'s review, they are more of a pain to get on than I thought they would be. Had to take my factory hitch receiver off which was no problem but the location where the inner bracket bolts have to go was problematic. Mainly because the frame is so close to the gas tank. I really didn't want to drop the gas tank so I iterated and struggled with it forever to get the nuts and washers placed on the bolts. I suppose someone with small hands and long fingers would have less of a problem but this was frustrating.
Great combo for the price it was a challenge installing the inside hardware. Receiver hitch bracket was bent when delivered but was returned and replaced 1 day later! Excellent coustomer service!
Ehhh, they look great but getting there is a real pain. This is one of those I should have read the installation instructions more carefully BEFORE purchasing. See for Jeeps from ’97-’06 there is some drilling (no problem), and it states "With the help of another person" only thing is they don't tell you that person better have Gumby hands cause getting those nuts into the new drilled location is maddening! Took way longer than is should have as I had to create ways to get those nuts into tiny spaces and hold them tight as I torqued down... Overall I'm pleased with the product now that it's on.
Plan on a long day installing this. ost of the problems were trying to feed the bolts through and getting the nuts started. Not sure what I'd recommend to improve. Not sure if I can add a bumper mounted tire mount to it. The new 33's are stressing out my tailgate.
This is well-built and the finish was good. Installation was not bad other than the in-board bolts on each side (girlish hands required).
My main complaint is this: the advertising for this item states: "Rear bumpers feature a cutout to accommodate spare tires up to 33" in diameter." I have the stock spare tire carrier on my 95 YJ with 33" Dick Cepak Mud Country tires on AR rims. The cutout in the bumper does not accommodate that tire as claimed - it simply doesn't fit. I need about another inch or so on the cutout in order to accommodate that tire.
I think someone forgot the spare tires are not mounted on the center of the vehicle. Rather, they are off-center to the passenger side by a couple inches. Unfortunately, the cutout on the bumper is centered on the vehicle. Not sure what I'll do now as returning the bumper would require removing it, and there's not enough skin left on my knuckles for the removal procedure.
