Reviews for Mopar 52059743AJ Fuel Tank Skid Plate for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK 2 Door
Everything was as advertised.
Serious rust in my OEM gas tank skid plate necessitated it's replacement. Research of aftermarket options were not appealing so I chose this as I knew it would be closest to the original fit/function. The elongated tab on the front vertical was unnecessary as the 2010 original skid plate came without it so I removed it. I used 2 1" wide by 15' long ratchet straps to suspend the poly gas tank which were more than adequate for the weight involved. I had driven the vehicle and had about 2-3 gallons left in the tank, making it very light and easy to move by hand. Removing the 6 bolts were easy with a 18" breaker bar and a long socket extension bar. This new skid plate fit exactly fine, no issues. I also put some extra paint on the surfaces where I cut and where the paint had been scratched getting it on the vehicle. When threading the straps around the tank be sure to loosen all of the bolts about an inch or so to create enough room between the tank and the skid plate for them slide in between while still retaining the gas tank next to the body. The tank will descend with the skid plate but, since it is light enough you can push up on the tank and fish the strap around one side to the other side of the tank and secure it to structure and then snug the strap up with the ratchet. REMEMBER- at the onset of this to put your vehicle high enough in the air to slide a floor jack and the skid plate together from underneath, otherwise you won't be able to remove the old skid plate and install the new! All being said, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PART!
I bought this to replace the original skid plate as it had pretty much disintegrated from rust. As others have mentioned this did have a large tab that needed to be cut in order to fit my '08. This was a non issue for me. I cut it off and touched up with black paint in less than 5 minutes. Its an oem replacement part so its not all that exciting but it fit fine and will be a good mounting point for after market skids.
I think it was time to replace my skid plate!!!
As the other reviewer stated, at some point Jeep changed the plate design and added the L bracket finger you see at the front in the product image. This was not on the original skid plates for 07-11 JKs. My 11 2door needed a new skid after I smashed mine good and that extra piece had to be cut off, there was no way around it. Original skid didn't have it. Otherwise it's the factory skid so same performance.
My skid was rusting through in several spots, so instead slapping on a new skid on top decided to get this. You can't tell at first, looks like it'll fit perfect. But once you have your old one out you can tell there is an extra tab about 7-8 inches long that will hit your cross member. Have to cut that off to make it fit. Atleast did for my 2007 wrangler. Ridiculous have to do that and paint coat is so thin will rub off if moved on floor at all. The price is not worth it at all.
