Reviews for OMIX 17724.09 Fuel Sending Unit for 70-86 Jeep CJ-5, CJ-6, CJ-7 & CJ-8 Scrambler with 15 Gallon Fuel Tank
I replaced this sending unit when I replaced the dash cluster gauges . Not only did I want compatibility with mew 12 volt gauges and new temp sender , but the tank sender wears and doesn’t have consistent reading due to worn contact . In my case , the fuel tank filter / strainer was trashed and glad I dropped the tank . Can’t say much for the condition of the outer surface of the sending unit and mounting ring . All was in bad condition . Based on that alone , it’s worth dropping the tank . Just imagine the top of sending unit rotted and water and dirt entering . Glad I got to it when I did . Corroded wire contact didn’t help matters either . It’s what we got to do if we want a working working gauges .
Worked as it should
Installed on 74 Jeep CJ 5. Worked well and fit ok. Gas tank is not original and it works fine. First sending unit I have replaced and it was time consuming and tricky trying to get it to register full and empty with the matching gauge. If you’re reading this you probably know that a sending unit must be matched with the correct gauge. (Whoever installed the sending unit or gauge in my Jeep did not know this.)
WORKED AND FIT PERFECTLY
Great price, fuel pick up doesn’t make it to the bottom of the tank. I should have checked and reshaped it before putting the tank back in the frame. Leaves 3 gallons unusable in the tank.
Sorry, but this is garbage. I replace my complete fuel system, including the tank, installed this sending unit, filled everything up, it read full, and 6 weeks later it still reads full. I don't know if the unit is defective or just what. I will now have to tear everything back down and replace this unit.
Not impressed with the construction of sender, very light material
