Reviews for OMIX 17209.01 Fuel Gauge & Temperature Gauge Kit for 55-86 Jeep CJ Series
They are fine but not as good as original
Work fine
A+
Gages worked after the new fuel gauge fried my stock temperature gauge, thus ordered new temp gauge, too. After blowing fuses, I read the post by other buyers. Yup, the post for purple and black wire and voltage are reversed. I also had to change the sending unit. Bare in mind my temp gauge worked perfectly before the new fuel gauge fried it. Everything works now. So, update your instructions and these will be a nice replacement for future buyers.
Having read so many bad reviews on Jeep sites and here, I was very cautious about buying these. The first set worked. They fit well in place of factory originals. Be very careful during install to make sure post are centered and not grounded to housing. The wiring diagram had the temp wires backwards. So I linked power to the right post and put the sensor on the left. It is all 12v. Looks ok too.
It took me three sets of these to finally get ones that worked.
There is no wat to make these work, don't buy these. There are two different wiring diagrams in the box! Neither work...
The directions that are included with the gauges are very wrong-they show two terminals on the back of the fuel gauge. The directions linked in the comments from Quadratec are closer, but also wrong. The original temp gauge power and signal circuits are reversed on the replacement gauge. You will have to fabricate a new "strap" wire to connect the two gauges.
Also, my fuel gauge only lasted about two weeks. I will have to remove the top, fold the windshield, remove the defrost duct, remove the passenger seat, remove the speedometer, disassemble it, all again to replace it again.
Buyer beware. Wiring diagram in the instructions is wrong. They work if you can figure it out. Look close to the factory appearance. Hint- a better diagram is available elsewhere. Good luck
