Reviews for OMIX 17206.05 Speedometer Cluster (5-85 MPH) for 80-86 Jeep CJ-5, CJ-7 & CJ-8 Scrambler
It would be worth checking if all the other clusters are made by the same company. The factory bulb holders DO NOT work, as has already been stated, fuel gauge doesn't work with the sender that worked well with the original gauge, and I haven't even gotten to the point of trying the speedometer as I can't get the other issues resolved. I should just put the old one back in and do without the speedometer.
Absolute junk. Fuel gauge came shorted. Also, i guess omit doesn’t care if you see the fuel/temp gauges at night, there’s no slot for a light at the bottom of the gauge. Had to modify to fit as well, so there goes the return. 135$ down the drain. BUY SOMETHING ELSE, DO NOT BUT THIS.
Very disappointing as this is not even close to the original Stewart Warner OEM. I have spent an inordinate amount of time troubleshooting the installation. I did some checks with an Ohmeter and found the following in comparison with the OEM.
OEM resistance was approx 22 ohms, the Omix unit measured 247 ohms for the Fuel gauge. The Temp gauge similarly measured 174 ohms to the OEM's 21 ohms. That is 10X times resistance which is not at all spec. Shame on these companys sending out this junk.
!!!Junk!!!
The face is rotated slightly counterclockwise, the speedometer reads anywhere from 25mph to 40mph when going 55mph. The temp & fuel gauges worked for a few months & then quit and the empty, 1/4, 3/4, & full lines don't line up with the needle. Even at 1/2 tank the needle is slightly to the left of the line. The turn arrow light up yellow instead of green and there is no dividers inside of the unit so the back lights bleed over & light up the turn arrows. The factory bulb holders are constantly loosing contact, causing the light to go out, and they fall out on a regular basis.
Oh yeah, the way the fuel/temp gauges come wired on the back will cause a dead short if you don't insulate them before you install the unit.
After waiting for a back order Speedometer Cluster, I was very very disappointed to discover that NOTHING worked. The speedometer would register 15 MPH when I was doing over 40. The fuel gauge always showed FULL (Sending Unit was checked and OHMS and unit were working) and the Temp Gauge just sat there. Unfortunately I had to modify the unit to fit, so there is no returning. $123.00 gone. Check to see if yours works before going thru all the trouble of installing. This is the first bad part I have received from Quadratec. I will continue to buy from them.
Bounces and sticks. Up to 20 mph off. Sitting in parking lot currently and stuck on 75. Just installed going to put the old one back in.
