Reviews for Vertically Driven Products Original Ultimate Console for 76-95 Jeep CJ & Wrangler YJ
Functionally good, but a few little design issues. The coin holder is not very good, as any coins you keep in there bounce and jiggle their way out onto the floor. Also, my favorite niece sits in the back, puts her McDonalds cup of Sprite in the rear cup holder, then I open the lid for something. Sprite all over the rear floor. So be careful of that. All told, however, this is an inexpensive console and is easily replaced when desired, which is what I'm doing today after 7 years on my first one.
Easy install and fits.
I agree that it's a little bit snug in a YJ. However, we never move the seats as we have no back seat and it's only ever my wife and I. We sit with both seats all the way back. The jeep has no top and no sides and with no back seat we don't need the passenger seat to fold up. It's snug but it works well. My wife likes the lock. She wouldn't leave her purse in there but she would leave a bunch of other junk she likes to take along (sweater, hat, sunglasses, etc.)
Very Happy with the fit and design of the product. It definitely looks great and is very functional. It was a breeze to install. I'm a little concerned of how it will hold up over time as the quality doesn't seem great and the fabric is not tight and only secured by staples. However, for only $70 if it last a year or two I can always replace it.
Drilling is not as easy as they make it seem in directions.
looks good, fit good but the sunglasses compartment came warped on the edges makes it look cheap from the front. also i expected the console to be wrapped in a vinyl similar to the interior of a yj but its closer related to a plastic fabric. i would replace it with something else and not look back but its great when i had no center console and im going for the factory look
Cup holders are not very deep and they are for size of a 12 oz. Can. It is very tight against my seat also otherwise it's ok.
Good quality from an exterior perspective, but could use a bit better engineering. Fit is extreeeeemly tight in my stock 92 Wrangler. It's a struggle to get the seatbelt buckle posts between the seat and the console. Nice design with front and back cup holders. They could have saved money by dropping the silly coin holders and upgraded the lid lock.
My problem with this console is the lid locking mechanism. They really could have just charged an extra two bucks and had a quality locking mechanism. Instead, the key turns a lock that swings a flimsy bent piece of metal over a latch attached to the console lid. I bent a key trying to unlock the lid. Turns out the lock piece was bent incorrectly. To top that off, the lid latch is connected to the lid with two tiny (4mm) sheet metal screws. Clearly the lock was an afterthought. The locked lid will not provide any reasonable security.
When you are installing it, make sure you attach the mounting bracket to the console by putting the screws from the inside of the console out into the bracket (not starting from the bracket into the console), otherwise the screw tips are exposed into the interior of the console. The directions were not clear (and in fact suggest that it done the incorrect way). The procedure for attaching the front portion of the console could be improved as well since it's impossible to get a cordless drill into the location below the cup holder. You'll want to drill the hole(s) from the outside first.
Too wide for a yj with original seats, the passenger seat will not lift without extreme force and eventually damaging the console, does not fit the contour of the floor although it does come with a bracket to level it, I just wish it was 2 inches narrower, I am going to keep it due to the fact I never have anyone in the back seat and I I do I can tilt the driver seat for them to have access, it does look great in my 93
We are a little disappointed in the construction of console. While we were installing it the top front of the box broke. The fabric was not stapled/secured to the under side of the box completely. We were expecting better quality for the price.
