Reviews for Alloy USA 11801 Heavy Duty Ball Joint Kit for 84-06 Jeep Cherokee XJ, Wrangler YJ, TJ & Unlimited
Install was easy with C-Clamp ball joint kit on my 98 XJ. Solid construction. Low profile grease zerks require a lot of down pressure in order to accept grease. Overall excellent product.
Great product time will tell the story for durability not sure about the quality of the grease boots. I am running 37 - 14.00 X 15 mud tires and these corrected my steering issues and took care of some serious death wobble. YA AY!!
Great product, installs easy but the retaining clips could not be installed in my '03 TJ due to the thickness of the control arms (the OEM ball joints did not have retaining clips either). Removing the old joints can be a headache, I use plenty of wd-40 or similar beforehand... If you get stuck (ball joint won't press out)...don't break your press. When this happens, I put as much pressure as I can on my press (without breaking it), then give the control arm a good "love tap" or two next to the ball joint with a large hammer or small sledge...and the joints usually break free. Heat on the control arm works well for me too, if all else fails.
I installed these about a month ago. I love that they are greasable but the zerks that come with them are garbage. I installed the flush mount zerks in the lower ball joints and after my Jeep was all back together, the zerks would not accept grease! I had to pull the axles back out and replace the zerks. For grins I tried to push grease through them on the bench and they still would not allow grease. After replacing the zerks these ball joints are fine, but what a pain in the ass that could have been avoided with better quality zerks.
installed the ball joints a year ago and they are bad already, daily driver and weekend offroad. quadratec replaced them since they have a 5 year warranty.
both sets of uppper and lower Balljoints failed in under 5 months. Rest of front steering and suspension is brand new, solid and other parts have no play in them and been aligned with tires balanced and rechecked. Observed ~3mm vertical travel on both uppers and lowers on both sides, Death wobble present.
First let me say, Quadratrec your ordering process all the way to shipping was excellent thank you. Now, I have been working in the dark trying to get my 2006 Wrangler LJ put back together due to several issues. First being - these ball joints are knurled so they are very temperamental and it took a bit of elbow grease to get them in straight. Top and bottom on passenger side in finally and all looked good. installed the zerk fitting on the lower ball joint, it requires some other grease fitting that I didn't have. I was at the hardware store and they had a needle zerk fitting haha...NO its an actual needle with the grease gun fitting on one end. So I bought a regular zerk to swap out with this low profile needle zerk..Now mind you I AM REMOVING THE low profile ZERK, it takes an 8MM thin wall socket to install/remove, THE ZERK BREAKS IN HALF and the SPRING POPS out and hits me in the face..I have twisted head of bolts but never with an 8mm socket and smallest ratchet I own....and it was not on tight, I had just put on to see if the socket would actually fit there is not much room, it did and I gave it a couple of turns.. OH and why would you need a slanted LOW PROFILE NEEDLE ZERK on the lower ball joint...the top of the ball joint is pretty well protected by the steering knuckle. Finally after exhausting all my know how on trying to tap out the this tiny zerk I called quadratec support..oops its Friday after 5...Not upset about that, I'll deal with them monday and ride the weekend with no grease in lower right ball joint...I ordered the SPICER and will wait for them to come in before doing the drivers side...
