Reviews for OMIX 18016.02 Lower Power Steering Shaft Assembly for 76-86 Jeep CJ-5, CJ-7 & CJ-8 Scrambler
good quality
Having trouble getting the part on, it looks like the spline is not the same as mine. I have a 1980 cj5
Ordered my first one on March 9th and it failed by April 15th. The rivets holding the universal joint together failed. Quadratec sent a replacement and it was installed on May 12th. It just failed as I was on the highway driving to work, today is May 17th. I am writing this review from the passenger seat of a tow truck right now, thankful to be alive. Don’t buy this product! It is cheaply made and will not last. Once I am back at home, I will be calling Quadratec and returning this product a second time.
These are an absolute waste of money. After about 200 miles it was loose and full of slack almost a 1/4 turn of the steering wheel.
The joint on the cab end is junk. Splines look like trash. I have fought for 2 hours and have finally given up on getting it on. The joint in the box end has to be assembled. The square bearing would not go on the cross pins had to sand them down with a flap sander to get them on and then the pin was too long to go in the case had to file them off to even get it together. But on a brighter note it would slide right on the gear box. The shaft has more slop than the one I’m taking out. Cannot believe I waited 2 weeks for this but I wanted something that looked original. Would not recommend
Not a well manufactured part in the opinion of this customer or my friend/mechanic who initially installed the part into my 81 CJ8. Received a second opinion from another veteran mechanic who confirmed the part was either faulty or just very poor quality.
