Reviews for Bestop 79846-17 Twill Replace-a-top Soft Top with Tinted Windows without Doors in Black for 10-18 Jeep Wrangler JK 2 Door
Couldn’t have been a better purchase probably the nicest soft top I’ve had. I bought it to replace my 2012 Wrangler Sahara OEM roof installed it with my son wasn’t to difficult, even with a small rear window problem, which was resolved very quickly by having a new one shipped out very fast, we are enjoying it all summer the material is much better than the OEM roof if you don’t need the frame this one is the way to go!
Really nice top, easy to install and much quieter than the factory top. This top looks great and is much softer than the factory top so it is easier to put up and down in cooler weather.
Got this to replace my factory top on my 2013 2Dr. It is the best upgrade I have made. It is much quieter than the factory top. It has a lot better look and the fit is exactly what it should be
Really nice top.
No problems with the install. Pretty good directions to follow.
My neighbor's cat likes to use it as a place to sleep and her fur seems to stick to this top more than the OEM top.
Definitely a nicer top than the OEM one.
It is the closest to factory OEM that came on my willys wrangler
Overall material quality continues to impress. But I'd like to touch upon the 'snug' fitment. Over the years, this has caused me considerable headaches. The problem I've come to realize is that the fitment of the driver's side window panel is not correct. The underlying reason: The zipper on the roof starts too far to the rear (or the zipper on the window starts too far to the front). For those who understand manufacturing: It is a case of tolerance stack up. The result is the driver's side window BestTop panel tries to pull out of the frame on the JK. I tried reaching out to BestTop a couple times, they put it off as improperly installed. Which is unfortunate. Quality materials assembled in a substandard manner results in an unhappy customer.
So the top looks great and not a difficult install if your familiar with the soft tops, HOWEVER, the zipper track on one window separated on its own about a month after install. So the 2nd time I went to drop the top I couldn’t because the window was not coming off. Now on week 2 of waiting to hear a response from Bestop and don’t expect one at this point. Left to spend more money to fix it myself apparently.
Advice: Buy something without zippers.
Very disappointing fit. Front section VERY loose. Flaps horribly with windows down. Surely will destroy top if allowed. Six inches between 'at rest' and pushing up to top limit with hand or finger. Collects GALLONS of water in the sag when it rains. Rear section also loose, collects lots of water.
Yet, front-to-back, too tight to re-close. Let closed for two weeks after installation. First timeI opened the front section I had to removes side panels and release quarter sail panels, swing rear bow forward to get the catches close enough to reach in open position. Rear bow and quarters re-attached easily enough.
Perhaps characteristic of twill tops? Looks great. Soft and easy to handle. Yet, worthless if it flaps itself to pieces. Buyer Beware !
Completely unsatisfied.
I have a 2016 Hard rock that came with the twill top. I was looking for a replacement as the zipper had some issues closing completely on the rear window and ecven a replacement rear could not solve it.
I was not a fan of the giant reflective BESTOP logo, as it was not shown in the product images, I'm not a fan of paying for the privilege of advertising for a company.
I waited for a warm day to install the top and the process was a bit tedious but not that bad. It went well until it was time to fit the windows, and much like a previous reviewer, I too had an issue where the zippers were placed too far forward on both panels (Not the same amount for each) so that I was short about a full inch at the top of the panel where it connects into the door channel. My original windows fit into the new top fairly well, so the issue seemed to me to be with the new window panels.
I reached out to Quadratech who told me that it was fairly normal and that I can use a heat gun to stretch it the rest of the way, I asked if it would make up and inch and they told me they'd seen it make up inches.
So, the next warm day I let the top warm up, and got out the heat gun to try, and the twill fabric barely budged, if at all. I hit it full blast, for quite a long time, I had to wear heavy gloves because it was so hot. It just did not work.
I reached back out to Quadratech who quickly processed a warranty order for new window panels. And nothing. It's been over a month since then and nothing has shipped from the manufacturer.
I could not be much more disappointed in this purchase. I completely regret spending $1200 for something that flat out does not fit. I wish I could return it, I'd rather deal with my old top and it's funky rear window.
I would not recommend this product.
