Reviews for Rugged Ridge 17235.96 Driver Side A-Pillar Switch Pod Kit for 11-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Very nice look easy accessible and great addition to the vehicle
Really happy with the pod. Looks great in my Jeep. Like it is part of the interior
Bought this kit for convenient switch locations. Install is very simple and straight forward. Included switches feel solid and work well. Yes, cutting the slots are a bit of a hassle. That is however completely alleviated by heating up the utility knife first. You do that and she cuts like butter. Great product though, definitely recommend.
The product was fine and the installation instructions were good, as far as they went. An important item for the successful implementation of this product, at least in my case, was how to penetrate the firewall for access to battery power (there were no suggestions in the directions.) After viewing many YouTube videos on the subject, I discovered there were different access points depending on whether your vehicle was equipped with a manual or automatic transmission. Who would have thunk it? Bottom line is once the solution to that problem was found, the switches worked great for controlling aux. lighting, etc.
Would have given it a 5 if the directions said to heat the knife. Luckly I read that in another review.
Cutting out the slots is pretty difficult due to only having about 1/16" between the slots. Works as expected once installed. Looks nearly factory.
This is an excellent place for buttons on the JK. You'll want to use a torch to heat up a utility knife to cut the holes for the buttons. The works involved makes it a little too easy to mar the surface. You might also plan on replacing the buttons with something more descriptive. Anything will fit if you cut the openings. It's also kind of a drag to have to remove trim to get to this unit every time you install a new accessory, but you can't beat the location and the price.
looks fantastic however it should not be so hard to cut. it would be much better with all switches pre-installed. i would rather a dummy switch than to have to cut this hard plastic and I'm sure i speak for most.
I used the technique that Gary R suggested, but it still was very difficult to cut the holes. Doesn't fit like the factory trim. Gap between pod and windshield. Poor fit along door side of pod. There are 2 clips that snap into the A-Pillar; the bottom plastic leg broke off, the top metal clip broke in half (I had to use the one from the factory trim.) Also, there is a plastic post just below the top clip that goes into an A-Pillar hole, he post also broke. After epoxy the pod back together. Just after finishing the install and testing the switches, the red switch LED/light quit working after about 10 on/off cycles.
