Reviews for AEV 10305031AA 10 Gallon "Gasoline" Fuel Caddy in Black for 07-21 Jeep Wrangler JK & JL with AEV Tire Carrier
This seems to be the best option since I already have the tire carrier and at 10 gallons, can't go wrong.
More range
I have to give this five stars as it is the best option to carry spare fuel if you don't want the expense and hassle of fitting an auxiliary fuel tank. Its easy to fit, and took less than an hour to complete. However, there was one issue i encountered. I have slightly higher off-set on my wheels so I can accommodate a wider tire without using spacers. When I fitted my spare wheel and was tightening it up on the spigot, I noticed I was crushing to the tank. Due to my off-set rim, the tire does not touch the carrier bars like it should, but rather the wheel spigot starts crushing the plastic tank. This could be an issue for those not using standard off-set wheel rims. I overcame the problem by purchasing 4 x 1 inch rubber spacers to fit between the carrier bar and the tire. Everything fits nice and snug now, and I'm pleased with the product.
An amazing AEV product. We have an AEV JKUR and I have slowly been adding a few things that didn't come stock from them. This was one of them! Wow this is a great upgrade if you like being in the back country and may push the limit on fuel :) They are an amazing fit, with the AEV bumper and my 35's. I mean visibility wasn't at a premium before I put it on and now it is a bit less! It was literally plug and play, take off your wheel and put this on. You will be super pleased. Installation was a breeze. Took about 45 min.
A side note, I replaced the siphon hose with a much simpler and easier to use siphon pump. Takes up less room and works faster. One issue is getting the AEV supplied hose all the way to the bottom. I learned this the hard way as I never got all the gas out. So another AEV owner showed me a zip tied metal rod to the provided hose to reach the bottom. So two options :) still a great product.
looks killer and is a big hit when people are watching you fuel it up
This unit saved our bacon!!!! We did Black Bear Pass a couple of weeks ago and returned over Imogene Pass. Had plenty of gas in Telluride so we headed back to Ouray with almost 3/4's a tank. Got to the top and only had 1/8 and did not know how far to go. We siphoned off the 10 gal and gave us over 3/4's a tank again. Good thing we had it, we were back down to an 1/8th of a tank in Ouray. Easy to use and fits tight behind the spare. We love it.
It will fit on my tire carrier.
Usual AEV quality but……the gasoline and warning labels are not what I expected. They look to be poorly applied and are not very colorful. Kinda like they were running out of ink when applied. For my Jeep they will probably be ok. I thought about retuning it but didn't want the hassle. This is not an issue with Quadratec but rather an issue with AEV. Quadratec is and has always been great to deal with.
I bought this to extend the range of my JK in the Utah / Arizona back country and give me a greater margin of safety. This is good quality and easy to install on the tire carrier. It nearly completely blocks the view out the back window which was not great to begin with. The one big draw back to this tank is that it vents through the cap. You will smell gas fumes in your garage and your rear seat passengers will smell it when the Jeep is stopped. Probably not a big deal in cooler climates. But in warm Arizona it is constant. So only put gas in it when headed to the back country and be sure to siphon it completely dry upon your return.
AEV did a nice job of engineering this to fit on their tire carrier. It does block almost your entire view out the rear window. It comes with a shaker siphon hose. I put 10.3 gallons of gas in it to see how long it would take to siphon out what I could. You won’t get everything out of it due to shape and limitations of a suction hose. But getting most all the contents out took about seven minutes. You can see hose in use in photos. It is somewhat difficult to tell whether fluid is flowing to look at hose but I could hear little check valve vibrating when fuel was being siphoned. What I find lacking in this product is any sort of security for your gas. The cap doesn’t lock and there are no other mechanisms to deter or prevent theft or tampering of contents. For me that keeps it out of five star realm.
