Reviews for Smittybilt Replacement Soft Top with Upper Door Skins & Tinted Windows for 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ
Great top so far. 3 months in and it seems to be holding up fine. Stitching looked good and zippers work well. It is a little noisier than the sail cloth I had on my LJ but that's no surprise! I would buy again
Great looking top for the price, Installation wasn't too bad, recommend 2 people (Lots of pulling)
Helpful hints going in...
Check your old Header screws (ones attaching the front of the top to the bar that attaches to the windshield) if your jeep tends to be rusty these screws will be toast... get ready to drill off the head or E-Z out... grab new screws at Home Depot cheap (#10 x 1/2 in) Wala.
Directions say hook in rear sides of main top first, DONT, put the clips in slot first, DONT LATCH then hook the rear side in... you'll thank me later.
Do yourself a favor and grab silicone spray at an Autostore, spray the zippers on the install and run em a few. Do this every once in a while to keep them nice and make the top last that much longer.
Good luck!
low cost and good build quality, but fitment (particularly the soft upper door panels included in my kit) was horrible; I bought this product years ago for one of my older Jeeps and the door panel fitment was so poor, heavy rains would flood the Jeep if you did not carefully tuck the top of the door under the top panel after closing it; I checked the door panel frames against another Jeep to be sure they were not bent; 3 years of use before I sold the Jeep and they never 'settled' into place; if your top is trash, this is a good budget replacement, but definitely not top tier
The top looks nice, but loud. My side windows flap real bad and so does the back window. The tint and the color look very nice. I had a Rugged Ridge I pulled off to put this one on. I have to say I liked the tight fit that my Rugged Ridge had. Also, traveling down the road it sounds like a tin can rattling on the roof. I have to shout to talk to someone. My old one did not make a sound. Neutral about how I feel about this top. Yes, it was the least expensive one, but it was on sale. I wish I would have either gone with the Quadratec top or back to a Rugged Ridge.
Terrible replacement top. Had to have it replaced due to the fact that the top wasn't waterproofed and would leak terribly when it rained. They are bad enough that when I returned it Quadratec replaced it with one of there branded products which is a much better product. Would never recommend to my family or friends.
