Reviews for Smittybilt 76850 XRC Rear Bumper for 84-01 Jeep Cherokee XJ
Really Heavy Duty. I've installed the Warrior Products and the Warn rear rock bumpers (with D Rings), and this is the heaviest duty/best built of all of them. With the 2" receiver installed, it provides some under-ride protection at the fuel tank and no 2" receiver hitch installation. Only item of note is that it does extend further back than the Warn or Warrior products bumper (and the original), so the driver has to understand that when they are backing in tight spaces (not to back into anyone).
Good
perfect fit
My 2001 XJ is a bit worse for wear in the hind quarters. There were some challenges in removing old hardware due to serious rust. However, when it came to attaching the XRC bumper it went surprisingly well.
Very solidly built, amazing for the cost.
Only complaint is that the package didn't include the 8 bolts that attach the brackets to the stock bumper locations. My OEM bolts were shot and I had to go buy new ones.
Ok...so this is a great piece of equipment. Well built, welded, etc. However...it is INSANELY heavy. It took four of us to mount it (call us wussies but it is true). The weight is so extreme that my 99 Cherokee is now noticeably back-heavy and I suspect buying the front bumper is now a must. Again...the item is fantastic quality, but noting the weight in the description is probly not a bad idea ;)
This rear bumper looks right, and gives me the Class 3 hitch I wanted. And it was delivered less than 24 hours after I ordered it.
Excellent fit and solidly built. The only reason for the 4 star is because during the install I could see some of the textured finish rubbing off pretty easily as it made contact with the mounting brackets. Not too noticeable, but wished it adhered stronger.
Looks good and protects the rear of my XJ well. Installation can be tricky and some of the hardware may need adjusting with a hammer or small prying tool to get the bolt holes to line up properly.
The bumper is enormous, looks nothing like the picture and sticks out at least 8 inches from the rear hatch.
Fitment was horrible as well. I spent hours trying to adjust it but the welded nuts in the inside of the bumper, which normally would be handy, are no where close to the right location which leaves you with next to no ability to adjust the bumper up or down. Therefore one side is flush and the other side overlaps the body by almost a half of an inch. Also, there is a huge gap between the bottom of the rear hatch and the top of the bumper, huge gaps between the taillights and the top of the corners of the bumper. All are shown in the pics.
About the only thing positive I can say is it appears to be built well. Other than that I regret everything about the purchase. I could have spent 100 bucks less on a Rough County bumper that has built in lights, mounts flush, has a receiver hitch mount, and doesn't have the ugly holes that are for hooks or chain, I'm not even sure why the holes are in the bumper when it has recovery tabs on the bumper.
Extremely disappointing for a bumper that was 600 bucks and the pics show it fitting snug to the body with minimal duckbill protruding from the rear.
