Reviews for Bestop Trektop NX Soft Top for 04-06 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited TJ
A little more difficult to put on than my other top, BUT it should soften up after a week or so; I love the fact that it is about four tops in one, but I still wish it could come completely off without much hassle. Zippers are very easy to zip which is a big plus.
It's a nice top, good quality. Glad I got it at a cheaper price. It's a bit of a nuisance getting the side panels on even after watching the video. The back could use a bow like the front, it fills with water when it rains. The majority of the time I keep the sides and back window off and just the top on but you cannot flop the top back, even though it's strapped, the tension straps in the back flop off and it you tighten them too much they bend the back down.
Love the look and fit; however it is much noisier than the original top. I also have some type of rattle or chafing sound coming from the windshield attachment. I've always had Jeeps so I'll just have to adjust to the noise level again.
Looks good, tight fit, maybe too tight, rear window stretched to the max. It's wrinkled.
The top did not fit. It was over 95 degrees outside and I followed the instructions and even called Bestop about the issue. They asked for me to watch a video on how to properly install the top. The video helped a little bit but the top was bursting at the seam as I was trying to install it. I believe the issue to be that the rear window was not the appropriate size. Bestop, concured with that assessment and offered to send me a new window. I ended up declining the offer and sent the top back. The top is very noisy as a bikini top. I do not recommend this top due to the amount of effort required remove the windows and sides of the top. The point of the top is to have something that is easy to put on and take off. The top did not deliver on this. Bestop is gracious to allow you to return the top.. just keep in mind you will be out about $100 to return the top.
Bought one last year thinking it was defective because it wouldn't fit. Returned it immediately and received the new one, same deal! Extremely difficult to install. Had the garage temp up to 80 with even a few propane heaters nearby to ease the installation and still extremely difficult to install. I had to fight every step of the way to get this on my LJ . On no other jeep of my have I ever had such problems like I do when it comes to finding parts , canvases even to installing them.
This top doesn't actually fit—it's so bad, in fact, that the back window plastic ripped out of the fabric along the zipper while installing. $1,000 down the drain.
I've had soft-top Jeeps for +13 years and had a lot of tops. I know there are methods to installing tops and window panels, I know new tops are tight, and I know temperature affects material stretch and pliability.
I followed the instructions perfectly; I installed the top on a +80º sunny day; I let the top and window panels sit in the sun for a while; I was gentle and careful through every step of the installation.
Nevertheless, as I was nearing the end of what was, admittedly, a quick (if frustrating, due to poor fitment) installation, while zipping down the zippers on the back window, the plastic window material separated from the fabric at the top-right (passenger) corner of the back window and eventually ripped out all the way down to the back door along the zipper.
The problem, it seems, is exactly what other reviewers here have noted: The back window is about 2 inches too narrow.
The fitment where the plastic clips engage with the "door surrounds" directly behind the doors is not the greatest, but I doubt it will be problematic. The overlap/fitment between the side edges of the top and the top edges of the window panels (where the top zips to the windows and overlaps with velcro) leaves A LOT to be desired. The top doesn't overlap the side windows enough to fully engage the velcro between the two. That might prove to be problematic; I guess I'll find out.
Reading similar reviews from others from a few years ago (and presuming the folks at BesTop actually own Jeeps and use this top), it's really a wonder it hasn't been redesigned to fit properly and not fall apart. Super disappointing.
The top looks great from a distance (minus the gaping hole now patched with tape) and the zippers work well. Those are the only positive things I can say about this product. Sure, the instructions might not have been amazing, but they were more than adequate and clearly walked me through the install step-by-step. The ordering experience with Quadratec was good, as always.
But I cannot stress enough: Do not buy this top. I just wasted $1,000 on a top that doesn't fit and apparently isn't made very well, either.
