Reviews for Bestop Supertop NX Soft Top with Tinted Windows without Doors for 04-06 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited TJ
This went on much easier than I thought it would—took me about 2 hours after opening the box and sorting everything out. I had my wife helping, and was glad for the extra hands. Fits exactly as designed, as it should since Bestop has been doing this for awhile now. Instructions could be a little clearer to maintain correct orientation of a couple pieces, but was able to figure it out.
2005 LJ. One of the plungers wasn't screwed in tight and it fell out, make sure yours are screwed in or they will fall out in motion. It's tricky, you have to slide it back a bit to get a hold on the nut otherwise the whole thing turns. Also, one of the garters in the back had a bad rivet and the snap fell out. The corner stiffeners are very large for their pocket and place strain on the zippers imo. We'll see if the pocket stretches out to accommodate or if I'm gonna have to shave the stiffeners somewhat. It's summer now so we'll see in a while, before the colder weather comes. The top is pretty tight except for the side windows, they tend to flap around a bit too much for my liking; the oem windows I used to have were thicker so they were stiffer, these windows are super clear and nice but thin. I had to add stick on padding to the sides of the #3 bow as they were clanging on my roll bars.
Besides these minor issues the top meets my expectations. I wish I could give it 4.5 stars but will round up because otherwise the top looks great and repels water like a fiend. It goes up and down without much difficulty except the sunrider folding bars make it a bit unwieldy; the oem softop I used to have had a smooth motion but this one the arms fold up while trying to put it on, shifting the center of gravity a bit.
I got the twill version, the fabric is very tough and durable looking, all the seams and threads are good, pretty happy with the purchase.
Replacement for original soft top with same looking back end
Fantastic top. Would purchase again.
Softtop is an excellent! Easy to follow the instructions!
Perfect fit for replacing a 12 year old factory top
Excellent fit. Cleaned up the look of my lj
Not super difficult to install. We’ll see how she holds up. As of now..I’m pleased.
I bought the Bestop Supertop NX recently to replace my 2006 Wrangler Unlimited's 12yr old factory soft top. One point of disappointment is that the replacement top is only available in black (my old one was the khaki (slate grey) color, which really gave some nice exterior color contrast b/c my Jeep is gloss black & interior is black/charcoal). Chrysler stopped making both the khaki & tan colors, so Bestop did as well. I'll get over that one b/c the black body color & black soft top still give a little color contrast. Assembly & installation was pretty easy; if you are already familiar enough with the operation of your current soft top & have any technical skill, it's not that challenging. Just takes approx. 2-3hrs to do, as is stated in the instructions. Also, for ease of fitment, you definitely want to set the fabric out in the sun for an hour or two so it can warm up & be more pliable (also, as is suggested in the instructions). That really helps when you get to the step of fastening the flaps of fabric to the rearmost bow. The top looks & fits great; I'm very pleased with it. One last note: I discovered that b/c of copyright issues the new bow assembly does not have the "frame locking sleeves" for the Sunrider section of pivoting frame that the factory top bow assembly had. Anybody that owns a Jeep with the Sunrider feature will know what I'm referring to. Both in some of the pictures on the product listing page and in many of the diagrams in the instructions, those locking sleeves are shown. I have considered contacting Bestop to suggest that they update both sources of information to avoid any misinformation or misunderstandings for the customer. Both Quadratec & Bestop assured me that the operation of lowering the top fully will not be affected. I have kept the locking sleeves & "button springs" from my old top & may add them at a later date after the warranty expires. If I added them now (& drilled the two required holes in that section of the frame for the button springs), it would void the warranty. I hope this helps anyone with the purchase &/or installation of this product.
Not terrible. Thought the top would fit tighter. Installed in November on the east coast. It’s cold here and the canvas in the front isn’t the tightest even after 3 weeks of initial install. Wish I could give this top more than 3 stars. Almost none of the holes on the metal frames bars were threaded. I had to use the self tapping screws first to “create” the threads for the screws that needed to be installed. The bow for the front of the vehicle is the poorest fit, it’s to add sideways support. It’s the piece that connects the door surrounds right above the driver/passenger seat. Thing fits god awful, very loose. Instructions say you just drop it in. Loose and clunky. Makes noise whenever you hit any pot hole/imperfection in the road. I mean, the top is better than the one I replaced. This bestop replaces my 13 year old stock OEM top. The canvas of the bestop is definitley thinner than the OEM canvas. All in all, yeah I suppose I’d buy it again. $1200 with some minor finishing details kinda sucks though.
