Reviews for Bestop Supertop NX Soft Top with Tinted Windows without Upper Doors for 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ
Don't try and do by yourself. The fabric is very stiff even after being in the sun for a couple hours.
I watched the YouTube installation video (great help), and used the printed instructions to match up the hardware. Took 2.5 hours with my friend. We did step by step and kept going back to watch the video so we didn't have to redo anything.
Once installed it is extremely nice. The directions were pretty bad though. I had to look at them and a Youtube video to get the installation done.
Already had to replace a door surround because the retaining clip broke. It’s a giant pain to put the entire top down due to the extra hinge. The soft flops into the drivers area at highway speeds. On the plus side, the convenience of feeling like the top is down without the hassle of putting it down is worth the other aggravations.
The quality of the hardware is great. The top itself has had a few issues. I had difficulty with the zipper on the back window right away. Also getting some tearing of the plastic piece that holds the corner into the tub rail. The material itself is very good, and it fits well. This is the first soft top that I have had since the one on our old CJ back in the '80s, so I'm not sure if any other brands are better.
The fit on this top is fair. I have a 2001 TJ. Its so tight that the header doesn't fit well. I was able to get the latches to latch, but the header doesnt' look right. It was so hard to the the header to latch that I dont really want to take it off. To be honest I wish I hadn't purchased this. I wanted a top that I could put up and take down relatively easy. I can put my hard top on and off easier. Its not the fabric that cause this issue. Its hardware.
I had multiple fitment issues around the header bar. It clamped tight against the middle of the windshield but left up to 1" gaps at the corners. It took weeks and multiple phone calls to both quadratec and bestop to get an answer and a replacement. The replacement fits better but still not great.
I'd looked forward to this product for three years before I pulled the trigger. At this moment (having not contacted any customer service, bestop or quadratec) I'm regretting the nearly thousand dollars I spent on this soft top.
There are gaps, at least an inch wide, at the edges of the top of the windshield where the top meets, which allow rain and wind through, even when sitting. It's tight in all the wrong spots. The joints rattle with every bump, as if they're not connected; the hook and loop strap would not connect to the arch bar without fearing I would tear a seam; the rear corners will not stay attached throughout the course of a thirty minute highway drive. Many, many things going against my expectations.
Overall it's ill fitting and I'm constantly refitting the attachments to the body at various places and trying to reattach the header bar to the windshield in an attempt to get it to seal.
Despite my adjustments and wrestling with this top, it doesn't seem to fit as it should.
The quality of the material and the stamina it has shown against my manhandling is rather decent, adding the second star out of five.
My hopes were higher than they should have been - for nearly a grand.
I was really, really hopeful.
Pictures to come - pending any reply from quadratec or bestop.
Poor fitment up near the windsheid. Made several adjustments and still large gaps. Also not any quieter than the replacement fabric. For the cost please don’t waste your money.
Save yourself some sanity and RUN from this top. This is the WORST top I’ve had on my TJ. It does not fit. I have yet to make the front header corners go down properly. It’s like the top is too small and I’ve allowed it two years — still no better. I wish I had returned it and saved my sanity, but it was already on (and NOT in 2-3 hours as they suggest). I put it on a piece at a time due to the horrendous fit of the top. It does not stretch, don’t think that it will.
HUGE disappointment. I hate this top- too tight and I am basically giving it away rather than deal with it each time it rains. WAY too tight and rigid in many areas, so much so that we just put the Jeep in the garage and move out my other truck to avoid dealing with this top. We had to pay my auto body guy to first install it for the first winter a few years ago, since then it just lives in the basement and I end up covering my Jeep or placing in the garage so I don't have to attempt installing this top.
