Reviews for Rock Hard 4X4 Rear Bumper for 93-98 Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ
High quality bumper. Easy installation. Tire carrier is stout. Body lines match up perfect to your ZJ. Looks and performs perfect. Would recommend to any ZJ owner.
The quality of the design, the finish, the weight and fit were all very good. The directions could use some photos but if you take your time and pay attention; the process is easy. I had the old bumper removed and the new bumper completely installed within 4 hours. Mine is just line the photo here! I highly recommend this bumper.

Great bumper! It is very heavy, like 200lb not counting the carrier, tire, and Hi-Lift jack. Tops all bumpers I've seen for the rear of the zj. Only took about 2-weeks to arrive and about 3to 4 hours to install.
First off, my build is a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee zj I6 4x4 with a 4 in rough country lift with 31in BFG TKOs. Solid bumper! Would recommend to anyone with a zj. Appears to be made very well. Time will tell though. Tire swing gate is solid. However some improvement areas IMO are the huge gaps between the rear tail light and new bumper. The bumper lines on the passenger side have a slight gap. Additionally, After install it will require a custom exhaust mount due interference of OEM bracket and the bumper plates that mount to frame. Currently can’t drive due to an unsupported exhaust. Finally, when you pay $1400+ for a bumper, it should come with a relocation bracket to mount your license plate in order to comply with state laws. Shouldnt charge the consumer an additional $120+Shipping.
It's ok, great material with nice welds but definitely needs improvement. I got mine last July (2022) and the powder coating is already flaking off due to very poor prep work. you can see that it was not blasted or primed,
Zero thought went into the 2" receiver other than welding a 3 inch deep receiver tube in the center. They used tiny little rings for the safety chains but, welded them to the top of the receiver tube making it practically impossible to get the cotter pin into the receiver pin. So, you'll need to get a new locking pin along with your new drop hitch. Once you get your new drop hitch you'll need to cut a few inches off the tube an drill a new hole because the reciever is too shallow.
There is no box or hole for the electrical connection. It's almost as if Rock Hard didn't realize that these jeeps are setup very well, from the factory to pull things.
The spring loaded pin that locks the tire carrier rides on the powder coating that wasn't done correctly so the finish comes right off the first time you use it. It should have a metal shim there, Since I now have to get mine refinished I will be fixing these issues but, it's absurd that I have to at less than one year in.
