Reviews for Tuffy Security Products Drivers Side Conceal Carry Underseat Security Drawer for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door & 07-10 Jeep Wrangler 2 door JK
Very happy with the Tuffy Underseat Security Drawer. The build quality is nice and the installation is fairly easy.
I opted to not drill a hole into the floorboard, so it does make a bit of noise when you hit a bump etc as the rear half of the box is not attached to the body. I put a small puck in there to fill up the small gap of space, and there are no noise issues now. It's still firmly attached via the two front mounts using the bolts for the seats.
Ordered on a Monday had it Wed Morning, installed on 2017 JKU in about 15-20 mins. Very happy with quality and fit.
My son and I just installed the drawer in his '10 Wrangler 2-door. The unit itself looks to be fairly well-built and seems stout. Installation is not all that easy, however.
The box has two large 'tabs' at the front that are used, with the front seat bolts, to secure the box. Remove the two bolts, one tab goes over one seat pad, the other goes below. That part is fairly straightforward.
The trouble comes when one tries to use the third securing fastener. It is a square hole, roughly 1/4" a side, in the flange - about a half-inch in from the end. Looking at the image attached, the hole is at the far right end.
The instructions say to determine the location of the hole, then drill a 3/8" hole in the floor. An allen head cap screw, washer and nylock nut are provided. There is no easy way to locate the hole, as it is not visible when the box is in place. Also, as we found out after carefully measuring (wrongly), the box fits very tightly between the seat frame legs at the front - there is very little margin for error when locating the rear mount hole. It appears we drilled the hole about 1/4" to the left of where it needs to be.
And, you have to remove the seat from the vehicle to drill the hole. Or, maybe just rotate the seat back. We removed the seat.
If you manage to locate the hole correctly, make sure you have someone with very slender forearms to hold the allen wrench. It is a bear to locate the bolt and to hold it while someone else tightens the nut. The box penetration is square - Tuffy should have provided a stainless carriage bolt rather than the cap screw.
So, we ended up (running out of daylight) mounting the box without the rear securing bolt. It's a 90% solution, and I'll look at it again someday.
Two other 'issues' - the box, when mounted, wants to hang level - the rear about 1/2" off the floor. There are no spacers, so if you were to use the rear mount bolt, the box will have a fairly significant tilt toward the back (away from the opening).
The second issue - the free cipher lock that is provided is pretty useless. The front of the box is not easy to see, and the cipher numbers would be almost impossible to make out - especially for my old eyes.
Best in class. Has a quick grab handle as you might not always be in a good position to open this box. Very sturdy as well. I sold the JK with so it’s an added scope to its new owner. Highly recommend and am looking for similar for the JL.
Product construction is great. However, installation is extremely difficult if you want to utilize the optional attachment point (if you're using this to store a firearm without doors on, then it's a must). Optional attachment is a two person job. Location of attachment under the body is very difficult to manipulate a wrench due to a frame crossmember being directly below, among other reasons. The location of the bolt inside the box makes it difficult to manipulate a right angle allen wrench as well.
