Reviews for Vertically Driven Products Hi Fidelity 6 Speaker Overhead Soundbar for 87-02 Jeep Wrangler YJ & TJ
Upgrade from what I currently have.
This is the best sound bar made that will fit a CJ, YJ, TJ. So that's good. It should have LED lights that are much brighter. The lights are bit dim and I plan to change those out. It needs two wires to ground the lights, one for the doors open courtesy lights on, one for local turn on of the lights. It only has a ground for local control not door and courtesy control. Luckily you can add another ground on your own to make this a reality. Just add another ground to the center post on the inside of the light box. Run the supplied ground to your jeep and then run your new ground to the courtesy light ground system. Now you have lights when you push the lights and lights when you open the door. See Photos. Use a 12v power supply while working to test your set up.
The audio could also be better quality. There is really no bass at all. Round out the sound with good 6x9 speakers where the roll bar meets the floor and you will be much happier.
Soundbar fit nice and had great sound. Not meant for loud music, though. I blew out the left large speaker within a month of installing it. Be careful how loud you play your music.
There is obviously a lack of quality control. When the dome lights wouldn’t come on I checked the fuse it was broken inside the holder. Still no lights so I removed the dome light and they weren’t connected. When they still didn’t work, I found the positive wire had come out of the harness connector and that finally fixed the light issue. While I had the dome light out, I replaced the 5 watt 194 lamps with LED lamps which are much brighter. As for the speakers, they are better that just having dash speakers and sound Ok. Hopefully when I get the settings on the radio adjusted, it will sound better. I wouldn’t be surprised it on or more of the speakers aren’t connected.
Speakers not connected.
Mine must have been built on Taco Tuesday, after lunch. On the left crossover input, one connector was not attached to the board, the other had a cold solder joint. Pain in the butt, but I fixed it. All speakers now working. The dome light also wasn't working. Pulled it out and the ground was not connected. Hooked that up and still no-go. Found the ground pin in the main connector was buggered up and not making contact. Since these aren't standard pins that I have access to (like Molex), I had to bypass it for now. In addition, mine has to be wired backwards from Jason's pics (pos/neg reversed) to use a ground for on/off via the door switch. Sounds ok with the 6x9s in the rear. Definite improvement at highway speed having it overhead. Would probably be lacking on it's own due to poor bass. Good design, poorly implemented.
The cover does not fit very good and doesn't look like factory.
Very sad at the quality of the sound bar. The fixture around the light is constantly falling out, the lights offer no usable light, and speakers themselves have no more sound than the originals. On top of that, due to where the wires come out, they started being pinched enough to result in shifting out after 6 months. Any bump or turn and my stereos (kept thinking they were the issue but after 6 of them, I’ve determined they’re not) tell me there is a wiring issue and shut off. I’ve since been able to replicate this just by wiggling the wires coming out of the bar. Super upset that I ever tried this bar and that I now have to find a different one to replace it with.
No improvement over factory soundbar. Needed to do some splicing to adapt it to the factory harness properly.
For this much money you would expect the holes to not be stripped out.... the mounting bracket screws just go in and out.... nothing to bite into. I’m afraid to even waste my time cutting into my wiring harness...
