Reviews for Smittybilt 76711 SMI SRC Roof Rack in Textured Black for 87-95 Jeep Wrangler YJ
Looks like a high quality heavy duty rack. I haven’t installed yet - too cold and snowy right now
pretty easy to install. it's better to install it with a helper. looks fantastic and is very sturdy. In my opinion it's a huge upgrade in looks and storage/ transporting capabilities. Just be prepared to deal with your jeeps bolts and welded nuts, because as things get old they start to rust and break like everything. overall love it.
Easy to install,if you follow directions,
I have installed this one of these on my CJ-7. The front is pretty simple. The back connections leave a little to be desired as you will need to drill new attach points in the rear frame crossmember. The only weakness to the whole thing is no front and rear welded cross bar as part of the cage. This would provide better rigidity than just the smaller bolt on. There is a JK eco-cage which has a welded front and rear, be nice is Smittybilt followed suit.
The rack, itself, is great. Getting it on a yj was not. The front bars attach to the window hinges, which do not have threading to attach a bolt into. Instead, once you've extracted the existing bolts, and somehow removed the nut and Locktite securing said bolts, you're left having to take apart the dash in order to access the backside of the windshield hinge holes, or install nutserts to give the rack bolts something to thread into. It was a huge headache, and quite the surprise, as none of this is mentioned in the installation manual. I spent double the cost of the rack on installation solutions, and way too much time trying to get this thing on.
