Reviews for Rampage Products 88732 Retractable Side Bar/Rocker Guard in Textured Black Powder Coat for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door
Love the steps, the look, and the functionality.
They require upkeep to keep them working correctly. You have to clean the junk that builds up in the shocks and hit them with a good gel lubricant at least once a season, especially if you are like me and step over them more than using them.
Fitment is tricky and definitely requires two people since you need to spread the hinges so they fit but that is what keeps them tight.
The biggest issue I had was getting a set that was not mutilated in transport. Rampage does not package them very well and it took 3 shipments of pairs to get 2 good pieces.
This item seems pretty solid. Unfortunately im not sure whos fault it is, mine came with somewhat bent mounting brackets so those needed to be hit with a rubber mallet in order to fit properly. Seems like it will hold up over time. Make sure to put grease on hydrolics. Set up should definitely with 2 people, allows for a much easier install.
I took the locking thing off so they would retract automatically after stepping off of then. and it worked great... for about 3 months. Now I have to pull up on them to get them to retract. Once they are up they stay up until you step on them again. They work great as a step and they support very heavy people with no problem. They also work great as a rocker guard. They have saved me from body damage a few times. I'm just disappointed that they don't retract on their own.
love them, install was easy, but the shocks rust and are frozen stuck in down position, emailed company direct and they will not sell me new shocks while out of warranty must go thru 3rd party so if not for the need of new, better shocks I would've given it 5 stars
Like the previous review, my brackets were bent as well. Even with the brackets straightened out, I was unable to get all of the pinch weld bolts in. My biggest concern is that the rear bolt that attaches to the body tub will not go in. There is a welded square of metal attached to the top of the bracket that covers the bolt hole. My Jeep is a 2015 Wrangler Freedom Edition that came with factory rock rails. I think it might be OK, but time will tell.
After going through two sets... None of them would retract properly. I have them locked in the down position now.
Entire ability to extend or retract is based on three flimsy pneumatic cylinders (each side) that quickly rusted and froze solid. Never could clean or get working again. First time using in rock situation led to denting/damaging rock rails themselves that were crushed from the jeep's impact against the rocks.
Poor fitment too much modification to make them work had to return.
GARBAGE! started to rust almost as soon as they were installed - Now shocks are rusted and frozen - on install had to bend brackets to fit. My jeep looks terrible because of these rusty pieces. DO NOT PURCHASE!
Don’t buy this product! Areas to secure the bolts weren’t aligned with the Jeep’s frame....1 of the 3 mounts were bent. Not only that, Immediately after it was exposed to rain, certain parts began to rust. Worst product I’ve purchased. Lesson learned
