Reviews for Rampage Products Frameless Trail Top Soft Top for 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ
Top is awesome and fits great. It just needs to be done in a heated space where it is warm enough for the top to stretch. I lay the top over the jeep and put a space heater inside the jeep to give that little extra bit of stretch to the top, especially when it is brand new.
I got this top with an 01 TJ I bought, it's old, faded, dirty and looks great. I like it and am glad to have it. We don't get much rain in AZ so I don't know or care if it leaks. The top is as easy to put on as a safari top with side and rear windows, getting it hot in the sun helps a lot. I usually run it with all the windows off and a Smittybilt 561035 CRES - Cargo Restraint, it looks good and keeps the sun off my head. The best part is most of the top is self storing so I don't need to have a bunch of windows in the back. The only bad thing is the AZ sun rotted out the straps like I said it's an OLD top, a trip to a fabric store I got everything I needed to replace them $25, a little stitching and day later the straps are new.
So far so good. I bought a 2000 TJ a few weeks ago and it had a raggedy top which I had to stop and duct tape on the side of the freeway. I ordered from Quadratec and got my new top within a couple of days I was super stoked. Good job guys!! Two weeks before Christmas and in the middle of a pandemic. These guys know what they’re doing!! It took a YouTube video and a couple of tries and as a previous Sahara owner this isn’t my first rodeo but the material is nice and sturdy and the fit is just perfect. My GSP appreciates no bar on the back window blocking his access to fresh air but I’m a bit confused and I ordered the Rampage specifically because of the layered pockets on top to store your back windows and all I see is a single area up there with no separation which could lead to scratched up windows later. I’m going to have to investigate this a little more but other then that no leaks with the drizzle. It’s a lot more quiet then I thought and it looks really good which concerned me cause I’ve seen other frameless tops on other Jeeps but all in all fantastic so far!!
Bought this back in June. It has been a really great top! Others have said that it is to tight in the back to zipper up. I just zipper up all the zippers then push the plastic edges into their slots. After I figured that out it makes it easy, just have to watch with the curved part along the door jam. Biggest con of the top is that taking off the actual top is a real pain to get the clips out of the rain gutters above the doors because it is so tight. Most times I can't be bothered, just take the windows out. That's why I am only giving 4 stars. Overall I really like it especially the storage for the windows. Top is pretty loud, but what do you want for a bowless top. Gave me an excuse to upgrade my speakers.
Great product! Fast delivery! The top went on fairly easily, after letting it warm up in the sun. However the windows are a little thinner than I thought they would be. Overall it was good for the price. I love the look of this top especially with the tinted windows.
I don't know if there is some variance in there production system, but I read alot of reviews that this top is too tight. Either there is variance or people are putting it on wrong. Mine went on in 30 minutes in 50°F weather. Only reason it's not 5 stars is because the stitching on the corners on the very front is awfully thick which made it a pain to get them into the windshield channel. This is my second time buying this top, first one lasted 6 years. After that the sun had weakened the straps enough to start breaking when I tried to pull them tight, and the Velcro was peeling off. For this price I figure 6 years is good.
tough to initially install but looks good and functions well. Only problem that has risen so far is the stitching for the Velcro comes undone at the ends so the Velcro lifts from straps and windows
Ok top. Zippers are crap. I have had to replace the back window and driver side do to the zippers being cheap
I'm having a hard time with the rear window. It's about 3-4 inches short on the right side. I know it's best to install on a warm day, which I have. Any ideas on what I can do? I have a 2005 Wrangler TJ.
PROS:
1. cool look
2. on board storage of side & rear windows
3. reasonable price
4. nylon straps and Velcro held up for 4 years before needing replacement. Not sure how other products compare. Mind you this 4 years is under a brutal Texas sun and occasional coastal salt water atmosphere. Replacing the straps was pretty simple using strapping I ordered off ebay, a roll of Velcro from Walmart and a decent sewing needle with thick thread.
CONS:
1. absurdly difficult to install when new. I recommend not trying to install during winter months. Wait until it's over 85 degrees outside and lay the entire thing in the sun for several hours before breaking your zippers like I did - twice. Pull tabs would be quite helpful if the company decides to improve this product.
2. seam leakage directly over driver and passenger seats. The seam is treated with a sealant, but, inherent to the design, it gets pulled apart when you tighten down the rear straps to keep the top in place. I found that Home Depot sells "Never Wet" a really good water repellent spray that works well enough to effectively waterproof the seam. Just reapply every 6 months.
3. Zipper components are a bit weak for the tension they need to hold. I broke teeth, broke, the handle, and had the zipper come unsewn from the fabric at the rear window from the force required to zip everything back up. If you've been running without windows and it begins to rain and the temperature drops, you're likely to break something when you try to hurry up and reinstall the windows because the fabric and window material shrink a considerable amount as the temperature drops.
