Reviews for Mopar 82213051AC Hood Lock for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
working great
I have to leave my Jeep parked sometimes for awhile and wanted to discourage tampering with the engine. This lock works great and uses your same ignition key. I agree with the review by Scott M. that the rivet gun from Harbor Freight Tools works perfect as that's what I bought and used also.
This was my first purchase as a new Jeep owner. I wanted a lock on my hood. There are other hood locks out there but this one can be set up to use the ignition key. I did not want to have one more key. The install is not hard. I bought a rivet gun from Harbor freight for $20 for this job.
Did it's job ok.
Great lock, easy install, wish you did not have to leave key in lock when open
Super simple bolt on install, keys to ignition keys....just as described. What I hate is that you can't reset with ignition key and rekey. I've traded in 3 vehicles with Bolt locks and they all went in the trash bc they are useless unless you keep keys from the vehicle. I think that's how they make money. For that reason, I won't be buying anymore Bolt locks unless they offer a service to recycle your old lock for a new 1 at a substantially discounted price....not a small discount.
I never installed this hood lock. I took it to my Jeep dealership to have the key and tumblers matched. Even they could not get it to turn the desired 90 degrees after it was matched. Came in too many pieces. I ended taking it back to Quadratec for a different type. The replacement cost half as much and installed easily.
I had one of these in my previous JK that was already assembled and just needed to be riveted in place and the cylinder was self-keyed using your own Ignition key. Easy as pie. I was looking for another one for my new JK and was reading about how some were saying you had to assemble the entire unit. I would rather not do that. I did some research and found that it looks like the part number 82213051AD is fully assembled and you key it yourself, as I described. However, the part number 82213051AC needs full assembly of the unit PLUS need to have the Dealer code the cylinder to your Ignition key (for $$). This entry is the latter -AC part number. I'll order the 82213051AD elsewhere. Hope this helps.
Definitely not even close to the instructions shown on the web site. Hood lock was completely disassembled. I had to manual set the key code by one tumbler at a time and then rivet the assembly together before I installed it on my jeep. It was supposed to be a simple sticker removal to set the key code, then four rivers and done. Not even close. Once together it's a great product and works as advertised. Two stars because web site didn't match product.
Product did not come assembled completely wasted my time when I went to have it installed. Now I have to bring this lock to a lock Smith to code it and the tumblers buy another lock not to mention waste more money what a huge disappointment.
