Reviews for Lange Originals M2-007 Quick Mirror II in Black for 76-18 Jeep CJ-5, CJ-7, CJ-8 Scrambler, Wrangler YJ, TJ, Unlimited, Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK
I'm not sure why people expect OE factory quality workmanship from a set of mirrors that cost $80. These mirrors are well made, yet inexpensive. They come off and go back on very easy, perfect for taking your top down and going off road with. You don't have to worry about a tree or rock tearing them up. I've had mine on and off since I received them and I have not had to tighten them yet. Is it possible that they might loosen up? Sure, but then all I have to do is use a wrench or screwdriver to tighten them back up. You can't do that with OE mirrors. Could Lange Originals have put a backing on the bracket to protect my paint? Sure, but then they would have charged me more. It took me all of 2 minutes to find something laying around the house to put on the brackets to protect my paint. I'll take that deal every time. Yes, they are convex, and yes, they are not as big as OE mirrors. But again, they only cost $80. These mirrors work great for what they are intended for, you can see behind you, your jeep is legal, and they can be taken off and put back on in less than a minute. All for a very reasonable price. If you expect more than that you better be willing to shell out 4 to 5 times what you would pay for these.
Fit my '91 YJ great! Hate to admit but I did drop one of the mirrors when installing and quadratec was amazing about helping me replacing it for free.
A simple mirror set that does what it needs to. Great quality and easy install. These have been on the jeep for three months now and don't move themselves like others I've tried.
The Good:
This mirror set is easy to install and easy to adjust. I like the round mirror look and the all black is nice. Instructions were easy to follow.
They are adjustable so you can mount them at several heights. I chose a higher setting to make way for my full doors.
Mounting feels tight although I have only driven a few miles at 40-50 mph max.
The Bad:
As is stated on their website the passenger mirror doesn’t work well with full doors. The bend in the stem looks 45 degrees so maybe 60 degree bend and an extra inch they would be a bit better. I will make a new stem to see how this works.
The Slightly Annoying:
Plastic parts seem a waste. I live in Texas and UV will eat them. Rather have rust that I can paint than plastic that cracks or distorts so parts fall off.
Very adjustable but unless you want to change positions every day it is unnecessary. Again…loosing and tightening parts…especially plastic clamp will cause issues down the road.
A bolt is black but the nut and washer are not?
I will try out some other mirrors to compare but this is a solid 4 stars. I do like and the little things are trivial.
Tip: When adjusting where you want them with full doors on, leave the stem lock nut loose and open the door to find optimum location. The door will locate the stop point.
Quick release
They work fine and are quick and easy to put on and off. At high speed they do move a bit in the wind but then remember they are not rigid mounted to a door like the factory originals so what do you expect.
Installation was troublesome. They did not include hardware that fit my 2016 JKU, the included bolts were the wrong thread pitch. Luckily I had a couple screws I could use that were the right size / thread pitch. They also do not include a gasket or other to put between the mounting plate and the Jeeps A pillar. I used some foam there to help protect the paint on our Jeep. The mirrors work, and they are cheap, but it would be better if the glass for the mirrors was convex so the view offered was wider and covered more. As it is, they help but are definitely a step down from the factory mirrors. The mounting system works well and is easy to use. The quality and finish is pretty good. But the narrow field of view keeps them from being a great choice. Sadly I suspect that most other options have the same fault, aside from options that let you use the factory mirrors.
The mirrors are built good and look good. But like another said, there should be some backing on the bracket, I had to make my own.
personally I think these are horrible. I think they should with some kind of rubber backing so you're not tightening the metal bracket against the metal frame of your jeep. if you have new jeep or nice paint then this would bother you. Also upon the install the hole the set screw is supposed to thread into was striped or unthreaded. Kinda disappointed in that as I waited for these to arrive and had the doors off my jeep ready to go. The driver side one installed in a few minutes but you will need a 9/16 socket to attach the mirror to the arm. All said and done i have one mirror on and will be calling quadratec tomorrow. For the price I feel like they should be built a little stronger, maybe put an indent in the arm for the set screw because the set screw sticks out quite a bit and use better quality metal.
Product becomes loose frequently when driving. It is difficult to get the right angle Not worth time or money.
