Reviews for Tuffy Security Glove Box for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Sercurity
The quality you expect from Tuffy.
Watch the youtube video and it's fairly easy to install. Works GREAT!!!
Easy install (20 minutes w/ 5 minute beer break). Don't skimp on security by not taking the 3 minutes to drill the bar for the "extra security" bolt. Little bit of rattle, expected when putting metal on metal in a jeep. I put "custom modified" neoprene tape and it handled it fine. Sprayed latch with WD-40 before install and haven't encountered any of the issues from other comments about the latch sticking.....yet
Took a bit of adjusting and a small amount of dremel work to get it right but definitely better then the factory box.
Fairly simple install, but the instructions could’ve been better. I really like the little bit of peace of mind this gives me, especially in the summer time when my rig is sans top and doors 100% of the time. I wish there was an option to key the cylinder to the ignition key, but having a separate key is sometimes a benefit.
Item arrived with some inconsistencies in the paint. I did not want the pain or hassle of returning the item and ordering a new one so I chose to sand and repaint. Relatively easy to install, but would be nice to know that you need grease. Install was delayed as a result of a trip to the auto parts store. Maybe in the future they can include a small tube of grease or at least let you know you need it in the description so you can be prepared. Still provides the same storage space as stock glove compartment and overall a very solid product.
Installation wasn't bad, but the instructions SUCK. I looked up a video on YouTube for a few points to make sure I was doing it right. The instructions are basically all text and don't show you any simple pictures to know which are the right screws to remove. Also I went ahead with the optional step of drilling a hole in the frame to mount the additional screw for security. I highly recommend this as it took all of 5 seconds with the right drill bit and a cordless drill. It does take a little adjustment to get the right fit, and the latch is a little stiff at first. You kind of have to slam it closed for it to catch. I'm thinking a little WD-40 and some time will make the action more smooth. But I feel pretty confident when I need to store valuables in the glove box. Plus it's nice to not need the ignition key to lock/unlock the glove box for when you're driving down the road and realize the glove box is locked and the key is in the ignition.
I won't know if it actually works unless another crack head tries to break into it, BUT it seems really secure. Construction is top notch; this thing is stout. Quality throughout, but it gets 4 out of 5 stars because of the fit. Everything is perfect on the right side and the top, but there is gap on the left side and the bottom does not fit flush with dash lines. I'm not complaining, wish I bought this before the neighborhood crack heads rummaged through my Jeep on 5 separate occasions, but for $155 and designed for JKs, it should fit perfectly. Instructions were terrible, but there are videos on YouTube.
So far so good, but it's only been a few days. Install wasn't as hard as I thought, to include the optional drilling to super-secure it to the frame. It seems solid enough, but that lock needs a LOT of oil, right off the bat.
