Reviews for Rugged Ridge 11509.20 Tube Door Set for 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ & Unlimited
The tube doors are relatively easy to set up and look good. There are only two minor flaws. The limit straps provided with the doors are crap, can't be set to a reasonable length and fit so loosely that they fall off. And it seems like it would have been trivial to add a stud on the door that would press the door switch when the doors are closed. But you have to deal with the door switches on your own.
Love the look of these doors, but had some issues. The passenger side was damaged on arrival and i had to disassemble the lock/latch mechanism and rebuild it, as well as bend it slightly. I would have simply returned them for a new set, but at the time they were backordered with a long wait, so I just did it myself. Also worth noting - you're going to likely have to adjust these to make them fit properly, otherwise they'll likely hang too low. Both my friend and I ran into this issue on our Jeeps, but we simply went to Home Depot and purchased some black nylon washers to slip over the posts before dropping them into the door mounts. Once we had the right adjustment these bolted right up and look and function fantastic! I'd definitely recommend these, but would have preferred they not arrive damaged.
Would have given a 5 star but the instructions are terrible, they spend to much time on how to remove your old doors, still very easy to figure it out . I'm extremely happy with the quality of the tube doors and the locking handles ( with keys). The mirrors are a bonus, so I can leave the OEM full doors complete and that makes last minute choices easy.....
Received the doors got them all put together and test fit them all looks good easy to set up. My only complaint it doesn't hit the door switch to turn off the lights I guess engineering a tab into the tube to correct this matter may be too difficult... mind boggling for the price of the doors! 05 TJ
Great doors for the price, but the driver side latch is messed up. The sliding part doesn’t line up with the slot of the latch itself, making it unable to securely latch onto the strike.
The styrofoam packaging was insufficient for the amount of weight inside the box. The box arrived with mangled styrofoam pieces inside, but luckily nothing was damaged. The bubble wrap covering one of the doors was a different color and type than the other door's wrap, and it was laden with dust, like it had been on the shop floor for some time. The instructions don't cover bolting on the hinge pins at all, but you're better off just dumping the parts out and figuring out how it all goes together. One of the hinge pins had a defect with a spot of metal sticking out, preventing it from going into the Jeep hinges. I filed off the defect. The next item doesn't affect the performance of the product at all, but it's noteworthy. The brand name in the logo was misspelled on the metal plates on the doors. It should say "Rugged Ridge" and it says "Rugge Ridge". Yes, they misspelled their company name. But after I got everything assembled and adjusted, the doors worked fine. A few weeks later both door straps ripped at the seams, rendering them useless. I created new ones with pieces of Dacron rope, problem solved. Later one of the pins inside the latching assembly of the driver's side door had its edge break off causing the pin to frequently become dislodged and cause the latching assembly to not work correctly. I have to periodically push the pin back in and will probably end up epoxying it or fabricate a replacement pin. Overall I like the doors along with the mirrors, but I've experienced too many issues. If you buy this, be prepared to solve problems and act as the manufacturer's QC department. I have to add that I'm disappointed that reviewers here have denigrated other reviewers who have had a negative experience with the product, and Quadratec apparently is OK with this. It's not conducive to open and honest reviews, which customers are looking for.
attaching to hinge pins was a pain.
passenger door lock assembly was bent, based on the packing materials being different it looks like I got someone else damaged door in my box. I had to disconnect all interior lights due to no tab added to hit door plunger pin. Doors look great, but mirror hardware did not work. 2000 TJ
Instructions for door assembly totally omitted that you have to assemble the hing pins to the doors. No instruction at all provided for how these were to be mounted. I figured them out but was a huge pain!. The screws shipped with the mirrors were the wrong size for the tube doors. Fortunately, the tube door mounting hardware included 6 screws which did fit - though, again there was no mention in the provided instructions. And ANOTHER parts issue: the instructions mentioned reusing the stock hinge pin nuts for mounting the tube doors. But the threads on the hinge pins provided with the tube doors are way too large for the stock hinge pin nuts. Had to use standard lock nuts of the correct size. For the amount of money I spent on this kit, it should have been better equipped and supported. BE WARNED. After all the hassles, I was able to get the doors mounted and they do look good and seem to function satisfactorily. But more so thanks to my ingenuity than the provided hardware and instructions.
Poor quality workmanship!.
The door door that actually works poorly align and you have to slam pretty hard to actually have the latch into place do to a the manufactures poorly place rubber stopper.
The locking system is riveted cheaply and poorly. Out of the the box, the passenger door won't even latch closed, not because of me not being able to align the door, but because the the manufacturers internal slider bolt doesn't even line up with its own built in slot!!
I'm not even going to get into that parts of the door tubes has missing paint section that where left white. lol
Almost makes you wonder if anyone even cared to inspected the product before it left Chinese factory where it was made.
...and yes i just requested a return and refund
1) The mirror screws were hard to screw in and did not provide enough feedback to indicate when they were seated firmly. That cause two of them to be driven in to far and damaged the plastic mirror mounting base.
2) One of the door mirror nuts broke free of their spot weld and now spins freely.
3) I have not been able to find a key blank to made a spare copy of the door lock key.
4) I was told that it would turn off the door light switch when closed, but that does not appear to be the case.
5) For the price that I paid, I would not recommend purchasing.
