Reviews for Crown Automotive RT21011 Heavy Duty Power Steering Shaft for 76-86 Jeep CJ Series
Initially ordered the Omix part 56113-0500. Was utterly disappointed in it. it was poorly constructed and not what I usually expect from Omix. It was replaced by this part from Crown Mfr. Easy installation and of VERY good quality. The trick to getting the shaft to adjust for fit is to apply some torch heat and relieve the plastic sleeve in between the two shafts, grease well and you are good to go.
I installed this shaft in about 90 minutes. No problems at all! I pulled my radiator out to do some maintenance on it and that helped to get access to the bottom end of the shaft. I also loosened the bolts holding the steering column in place (including the two piece shield around the column at the firewall). This allowed me to pull the column rearward to allow room to install the new shaft since it does not telescope like the original.
Great product, well built. As previously stated, you need to work the two sections apart with a hammer since it's a tight fit. Doesn't deserve a 1-star rating if you know what you're doing...
Much better than stock. Very well built.
Much nicer than the original. Well worth the money for the heavier shaft. You have to work it a bit as it is stiff but it will fit. I had to tap it on with a hammer for the final few inches as it is too stiff to slide with elbow grease. The retaining bolts thread into the collar, so there is no need for a nut, and that makes the assembly much easier.
Great product, the slide section is a little stiff but once you figure out that it will slide and give it a tap or two it fits fine, very well made for the price.
would be NICE not to have metric hardware ... USA!
This part did not function as desired. The ship joint which allows extension of the shaft was not functional, which led to failure of the part.
