Reviews for JKS Manufacturing JKS8211 Spare Tire Mount License Plate Bracket for 87-18 Jeep Wrangler YJ, TJ and JK
I own an export JK that mounts the licence plate below the spare tyre blocking my ability to install a trailer hitch, so the JKS was a great way to relocate the plate. Hardware installation was simple enough, however I wanted to keep my 3rd brake light, so I routed a pair of wires through the tailgate and spliced into the parking light wires above the right-side taillight inside the cargo area.
Downsides:
- The bracket could do with being made a little thicker, as the plate vibrates for a while when the gate is slammed closed.
- The integrated power/ground wires for the lights had the polarity reversed (black was power, white was ground), which stumped me for a while!
Great kit, however will disable your 3rd high mount brake light unless you run new wires.
Well designed and does it's job well. I took off a star because the instructions/parts are only for converting the center brake light wiring for dedicated use as a license plate light, with the center brake light then being abandoned/ removed. That was NOT in the product description. I wired from the passenger tail light instead, with wire and an additional T-Tap I had to buy that should have been included in the kit.
Overall a nice kit. I did however upgrade all of the hardware to stainless for obvious reasons. The plate to cover the hole that's left from deleting the factory mount was not something that I was going to put on my Jeep. A very cheap looking piece in my opinion. Lots of other options out for that particular piece though.
Great Product install was pretty straight forward. only reason for the dropped star is Screws for the old plate cover didn't fit, I ended up just not using it and purchased a Mopar Snap in one.
Works great. Would give it 5 stars if it had a red led in it as well for third brake light.
I wanted to like this thing, but just cant give it more than 3 stars. First off, it is expected that you will take off your 3rd brake light and throw it away. The license plate light uses the 3rd brake light wiring to function. Also, the license plate light does a terrible job of actually lighting up the plate, it might as well not exist at all. The bracket however seems up to the task and should hold the plate in place with no issues.
Works, it is a pain to screw together behind the plate between the tire
The mount goes on easy enough, but it is deceptive as to moving the light. You need a lot of wire to make it work and a lot or re-wiring. None of which is included with the kit. It does have instructions on how to do it, but on a JK they are totally wrong.
The description says it will fit up to 2018 for a JK. However, on the box it says only up to 2015 for a JK. This doesn't fit on the spare tire holder.
