Reviews for TACTIK Storage Box for 07-23 Jeep Wrangler JK & JL
Not gonna lie you will need to be handy for this installation! I have a 2019 JLU and I needed to mesure everything and drill the holes! But it was a fun little project nothing too complicated! It fits perfectly in the back on my Jeep and it’s so perfect for my recovery gears. I love that you can lock it so it can also be use has a safe area to put your purse or anything else when you are doorless or topless!
Quality and storage size.
Ease of installation and form/function vs price.
This box fits perfectly in the back of a 2017 JKU leaving a couple of inches on either side. I installed mine pushed all the way to the rear seat so the handle has space between my tailgate and a fold-down table on the tailgate. That left about 1.5"-2" of space between the handle and the tailgate table with the door closed.
I four-point secured the box to the floor, drilling for the holes in the box wasn't hard, but did take some measuring time to "dill once" and perfectly a line where the bolts were going. I was able to use 4- factory tie-down spots without drilling into the tub. The included bolts were definitely not long enough (even if I drilled into the tub). I had to go to a hardware store for longer bolts.
Improvements to design suggestions, but definitely not "deal breakers" for me:
-I wish the drawer stayed open on its own at all vehicle angles, not just when the vehicle is perfectly level.
-There is a bit of a gap in the latch so when you accelerate you can hear the drawer roll and tap (I've installed a "bumper" with a piece of rubber to stop this)
-I wish it was watertight
Even with the areas for improvement, this is a great storage and security option for the rear cargo.
This product is Just okay, I have it mounted in a JLU and it does make a lot of road noise when driving down gravel roads. The drawer fitment is slightly loose and rocks back and forth when driving. Almost a solid unit (had it for around 3 months)
This box is made extremely poorly. The gauge of the metal is thin so the sides flex easily. The biggest problem is that when the handle is latched, there is a good 3/4" of play between the drawer and the box. The play is enough that the drawer will open about 3/4" while driving and continuously bump into the tailgate, damaging it. There is no adjustment or any way to fix this flaw.
It comes with L-brackets but you're on your own to figure them out. There are no holes drilled in the box or any sort of provision or instructions for the hardware. The bracket locations (D-ring cargo tie-downs) on the Jeep JL are under the box so it would take some time to figure out how this would all get mounted. I opted for a few ratchet straps which do have provisions in the box to thread them through, which is nice. It's just not a great solution.
The kicker was when I attempted to return the box. I got a return auth from Quadratec but return shipping costs are on me. I called the UPS Store with weight and dimensions and return shipping would cost me $375! So I'm stuck with this thing, like it or not.
