No zippers
Looks great!! Directions were hard to follow, had to backtrack some, but in the end I'm very happy with my new soft top - great fit and just what I wanted.
Zipperless design
The first thing to state is that I purchased this over the MOPAR soft top because of the price, so my expectation wasn't that this was going to be the same quality as Jeep OEM parts. With that in mind, there are some things to discuss.
Operating:
If you're familiar with the OEM soft top, you basically (after removing the rear windows) have to unlatch the two handles at the front, fold the top back, pull the back handle, and it folds back real nice and quick. It's like a 2-3 minute job. On this quadratop, there are a set of rails that are connected to the frame, and each of them has a set of quick disconnects that connect on the rails of the top to the brackets you will install. Because of this, when you fold this back, and especially if you want to take the top all the way down, it will take time to do so, and it is heavy. I'm a big dude, so I can manage solo, but those with shorter arms or just unable to manage the weight may find this task to be a bit arduous. The instructions say to have a friend help, but honestly, if this is a daily driver and if you get caught in the rain, managing this bulk solo isn't the same ease of use as on the OEM top. It also doesn't sit nice in the rear of the jeep easily, and you will need to play a little bit of origami at first to find out how to make it fold up and not look like crap in the rear.
Installation:
If everything worked as expected, it would be a pretty straight forward install, maybe taking 90 minutes. My main beef with this product was the frame that attaches to the roll bars has a series of brackets, these allow a hand screw to feed threw to a receiving nut on the other side. The nuts, probably 50% of them were not done precisely, which required a lot of starting and stopping, running the screws through the other side to clean things out, and eventually leveraging a large wrench to manhandle their way through. Precision in engineering here isn't great and it added a ton of headache and time to the install. The rest was relatively straight forward.
Quality:
Overall, the materials seem of a good quality, and while not tweed or whatever OEM is, it does seem durable on the canvas portion. The windows are also pre-tinted and look nice, and the quadratec badging is small and not obtrusive. I'm concerned about the longevity on these quick disconnects and worry I will have to find some other solution eventually, but time will tell. Three year warranty should help to deal with those issues. I did have a small tear in the material near the windshield, which I am concerned will stretch out over time. I left it in the sun prior to stretching, and when I did go for the first close, I went slow, so I'm not sure if it was already there or if it happened during install, but I did everything right, and it was there, so who knows. Quadratec was good enough on their warranty to ship me a new top section, which hasn't arrived yet, but time will tell on that as well.
Overall, for half the price of the OEM, I think it was probably a better buy, but we'll see on the durability. I appreciate the flexibility it gives, and am happy with it now that it is installed. I wish Quadratec would have mirrored the operating procedures from MOPAR a little closer for ease of use, but again, at the price point, I can see why they did the approach they did. If money isn't a problem, go OEM, but if it is, or this is part time, this one should do well enough.
I’ve had this on for about a month and a half or so. It’s a good alternative to the factory soft when it comes to price. Installing it was pretty on par with the description in the directions and the video.
However, it does leak. The back door frames don’t line up completely, so I’ve had to add something extra as a gasket and the front latches are loose to the point that I’ve had to add something to fill the space on the latches so that the top will not only not leak in the front, but also stay closed.
I do enjoy the soft top, but this one is slowly becoming more trouble than it’s worth.
I cannot yet rate the product as I ordered this product in March and was waiting for warmer weather to install. Now that it is May, I’ve decided it’s warm enough. After starting to put my door surrounds together, I realized that I had two driver side pillar assemblies sent to me, so my installation had hit a speed bump. Seeings how it’s Saturday, of course I have to wait until Monday to contact customer service. Guess I won’t be taking the Jeep to New Jersey, from Maine, with the soft top on the Jeep.
